To broadcast prerecorded software tutorials as YouTube Live, send them through a computer-based encoder using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Configure your chosen encoder to play the recordings in sequence or loop, test the preview, and monitor the stream and a local backup. YouTube does not itself turn uploaded videos into a looping live stream, and a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived—so plan around that limit if viewers need a replay.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so activate it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- The tutorial video files you have rights to broadcast, including any screen-captured material, music, and other third-party audio or visuals.
- An encoder that can send video to YouTube Live and play your recordings as a sequence or loop. The exact playlist and repeat controls depend on the encoder; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not specify a particular application or looping setting.
- A local recording destination with enough space for a backup of the broadcast. YouTube recommends checking that the local recording file is growing.
YouTube’s live-streaming help also states that users must be at least 16 to livestream. Check YouTube Help for current account requirements before scheduling, as platform rules can change.
Set up the tutorial sequence and YouTube stream
1. Prepare and check the recordings
Arrange the tutorial files in the order you want viewers to see them. In your encoder, create a media sequence or playlist and enable repeat or loop if you want it to restart after the last file. The control names and exact procedure vary by encoder, so consult that encoder’s documentation rather than assuming YouTube Studio has a playlist-loop switch. Check that video and audio play correctly before connecting.
2. Create or select a stream in Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding connection fields in your encoder. YouTube explains this encoder workflow in its Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder instructions.
Treat the stream key like a password: it gives an encoder access to your stream. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Configure the encoder and start the feed
Choose settings your computer, connection, and source files can sustain. There is no single bitrate or resolution that fits every tutorial stream; YouTube’s encoder guidance is the place to check its current recommendations for the selected output. Confirm your encoder is sending the intended video and audio, that the playlist advances as expected, and that looping is enabled if required.
Start the encoder, then wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Inspect the preview before making the stream public. YouTube recommends testing in advance, checking stream accessibility and audio/video quality, and confirming that any local recording file is growing. See YouTube’s live-stream tips.

Plan an all-day broadcast around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR pause-and-rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. These are separate viewer concerns: a missing archive affects replay after the live event, while limited DVR affects pausing or rewinding during it. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream archives and DVR on live streams.
If an on-platform replay or rewind experience matters, a risk-management approach is to end the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours and start another session, rather than rely on one longer stream. YouTube does not say that restarting at exactly 12 hours guarantees seamless playback or archiving, so leave a margin and verify the new session in Live Control Room. Keep a local recording as a separate backup; do not treat YouTube’s archive as the only copy.

Check content rights before rebroadcasting
YouTube’s live-stream terms require Live Content to comply with its Community Guidelines, and the provider represents that it has the necessary rights to exploit the content, including applicable music licensing rights. Review the rights for the complete recording—not just the tutorial narration—including captured software screens, images, music, sound effects, and any third-party clips. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and resolve permissions before streaming.
Monitor the stream and recover from common problems
The feed does not appear in Live Control Room
- Check the connection details: confirm the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key. If you reset the key, replace the old value in the encoder.
- Check the encoder output: confirm it is running and sending the selected source, rather than an empty scene or a stopped playlist. Use the encoder’s own status and logs to identify a connection or playback error.
- Allow for first-time account enablement: if live streaming was just enabled, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
Video or audio is wrong, missing, or unstable
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview and the encoder’s output meters before publishing. Check that the intended media source is selected and that its audio is enabled.
- Test the complete setup in advance, including the playlist transition and repeat behavior. YouTube recommends a test stream to catch issues before the planned broadcast.
- If quality degrades, reduce the encoder’s output demands to settings the computer and connection can sustain, then check the preview again.
The tutorial sequence stops or fails to repeat
- Check the encoder’s playlist or media-source settings; YouTube Live receives the encoder feed and does not provide the looping control for local recordings.
- Test what happens at the end of the final file and after an encoder restart. The supported repeat behavior and recovery steps depend on the encoder you chose.
The replay is missing or viewers cannot rewind
Check the stream duration first. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be archived and that DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond that point. Use your local recording if the platform archive is absent, and use shorter sessions for future broadcasts when replay or rewind is important.

The local backup is not being saved
Confirm local recording is enabled in the encoder, the selected destination is available, and the file is increasing in size while the stream runs. For an all-day broadcast, check free storage before starting and retain the completed file independently of YouTube’s archive.
