You can keep uploaded videos playing as a YouTube livestream by sending them through an encoder connected to YouTube Live. YouTube’s documented workflow uses a stream URL and stream key; YouTube does not document a built-in option that turns an uploaded video into an indefinite livestream by itself. For continuous playback, the encoder must keep sending the feed, and someone should be able to monitor and recover it.
What you need for a 24/7 YouTube stream
- A YouTube channel eligible for livestreaming: it must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general guide says creators must be at least 16. YouTube’s eligibility requirements
- One or more prerecorded videos you have the rights to stream.
- An encoder that can send a live feed to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. YouTube supports software and hardware encoder options; expensive equipment is not required to begin. YouTube’s live-streaming tips
- A plan to keep the encoder running and respond if the feed stops.
For a stream intended to run all day, distinguish continuous broadcast from replay: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guide does not establish that a longer, uninterrupted broadcast becomes one complete replay. How to start a prerecorded-video livestream
- Check livestream eligibility. In YouTube Studio, confirm the channel is verified and can go live. YouTube requires that the channel not have a live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days; its general guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. Eligibility details
- Create or schedule the stream. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one, then locate its server URL and stream key. YouTube documents these connection settings in its live-stream settings guidance. Manage live-stream settings
- Configure an encoder. Choose software on a computer or a hardware encoder. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings, and select the prerecorded video or playlist you want it to send. - Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Use the key associated with the intended stream and avoid sharing or publishing it.
- Preview and test. Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview before relying on it. Check both picture and sound, confirm the event is accessible as intended, and test relevant failover or recovery arrangements. YouTube advises preparing, monitoring and testing before a live event. - Keep the feed running and monitored. A 24/7 schedule depends on the encoder continuing to send video and on a person or system being able to notice interruptions and restore the feed. The cited YouTube guidance does not promise unattended uptime for a particular encoder.
Choose a software or hardware encoder

YouTube recognizes both encoder routes and says expensive equipment is not needed to get started. The right choice depends on what equipment you already have, how you produce the stream, and how you will monitor it—not on a requirement to buy a particular encoder. YouTube live-streaming tips

Use content you are entitled to stream
Only queue videos and audio you have the rights to broadcast. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content; a match can lead to a warning, a placeholder image, interruption or termination. Do not assume a 24/7 stream will earn revenue
Monetization depends on channel eligibility and policy compliance, and YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve. Repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy, so a continuous loop is not a shortcut around monetization rules. Troubleshoot common interruptions
- You cannot start the stream: Check channel verification and livestream eligibility, including whether a restriction from the previous 90 days applies. Eligibility requirements
- The encoder will not connect: Confirm that its server URL and stream key match the intended YouTube stream. Check for accidental spaces or a stale key, then re-enter the current settings from Live Control Room. Stream URL and key settings

- The feed stops after running unattended: Check whether the encoder, computer or hardware lost power, connectivity or its connection to YouTube. Restore the feed and arrange monitoring and recovery; YouTube’s cited guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
- You cannot find one complete replay: YouTube’s documented automatic archive rule covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed single archive of a longer broadcast. Check the current Live Control Room archive behavior and schedule shorter segments if you need replay files. Archive guidance
