In VLC Video properties, check that the intended files are listed, Loop Playlist is enabled, and Shuffle Playlist is off if you expect a fixed order. A YouTube player’s repeat control does not change OBS’s local playlist.
1. Check which OBS source is in the scene
Select the scene feeding your stream and inspect its Sources list. The source type determines whether OBS is playing one file or advancing through a playlist.

OBS documents these distinctions in its Media Sources guide and Sources Guide. If you expected several videos but the scene uses Media Source, replace it with a playlist-capable source such as VLC Video, or configure Media Source to loop the single file you intended.
2. Check the VLC Video playlist and playback controls
- In the relevant scene, open the VLC Video source’s properties.
- Confirm that every intended file is present and that the order is correct.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the list should start over after its final item. OBS describes this as whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist while troubleshooting a sequence that should play in a fixed order.
Loop Playlist controls what happens after the source reaches the end of its list; it does not explain why an item that is currently playing appears stalled. If the same file never ends, the setting may not be the relevant cause.

3. Check what happens when you change scenes
If playback stops or starts over when you switch scenes, inspect the source’s Visibility Behaviour setting. OBS offers stop/restart, pause/unpause, and always-play behavior. Choose the option that matches your scene workflow: for example, whether the playlist should keep playing while its scene is hidden or resume when the scene becomes visible.
4. If VLC Video is missing, check the VLC installation
VLC Video depends on VLC being installed. OBS says that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC, and lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. If the source is absent, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS before changing the playlist configuration. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

5. Find out whether playback stops in OBS or only on YouTube
Compare the OBS preview or program output with the YouTube live playback at the same point. This is a practical way to separate a local source issue from a delivery or viewer-playback symptom; it is not a definitive diagnostic procedure documented by OBS or YouTube.
- The video does not advance in OBS: recheck the source type, playlist contents, loop and shuffle controls, and visibility behavior.
- OBS continues playing, but YouTube viewers see a stall: look at OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame indicators instead of changing playlist loop controls. OBS says rising dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator can point to an unstable connection to the streaming service or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Consult the OBS Help Portal.
YouTube’s repeat control loops a video or playlist in the YouTube player. It does not control which local files OBS sends to your live stream. YouTube explains its viewer-side control in Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

6. Consider a playlist-source alternative only if needed
The OBS forum resource Media Playlist Source lists a plugin alternative to VLC Video Source. Its listing says OBS Studio 30.0.0 is the minimum version and names Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms; the resource was created on 2023-08-08. Check its current compatibility before installing it. A different source is not a guaranteed fix for every non-advancing playlist.
