To run different prerecorded loops on one OVHcloud VPS at the same time, create a separate YouTube live stream for each feed and run a separately configured FFmpeg process for each one. The VPS must have enough outbound bandwidth for all feeds combined; if FFmpeg re-encodes video, it also needs enough CPU for every concurrent encoding job. There is no universal number of streams a VPS can handle.

How YouTube models simultaneous live streams

YouTube separates a broadcast—the viewer-facing live event—from a stream, the incoming audio-video feed. A broadcast is bound to one stream. For distinct shows running concurrently, create a separate stream for each broadcast and configure an encoder to send each feed to its matching ingest settings. See Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.

  • Different loops at the same time: use a distinct stream and FFmpeg process for each loop, with its own input and ingest target.
  • Recurring events at different times: a reusable stream can be associated with broadcasts that do not overlap.
  • The same feed on multiple concurrent broadcasts: YouTube documents binding one stream to multiple simultaneous broadcasts. That is not the setup for independent loops.

For example, a two-feed VPS setup has two media inputs, two FFmpeg processes, and two matching YouTube ingest configurations. Separate processes and logs make it easier to identify which feed failed. This is an implementation pattern, not a tested configuration or a guarantee of a particular stream count.

Prepare the YouTube streams and VPS

Create a distinct YouTube destination for each loop

  1. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a broadcast for each independent loop and obtain the stream’s ingest configuration.
  2. Match each broadcast to its intended stream. Label your local files, service names, and logs consistently, such as loop-a and loop-b.
  3. Treat each stream key as a credential. Do not publish it in scripts, paste it into shared logs, or leave it in shell history accessible to other users. Prefer restricted-permission configuration files or environment variables, and limit access to the VPS account that runs FFmpeg.

The precise controls and available account settings can change; confirm the current workflow and account-specific limits in YouTube Studio. The API documentation describes the broadcast-and-stream model but does not establish a universal simultaneous-broadcast allowance for every account.

Check the media, network, and plan

  • Confirm every source file is readable by the account that will run its FFmpeg process, and that it contains the audio and video tracks you expect.
  • Decide whether to copy a compatible pre-encoded feed or transcode it. Copying avoids the work of encoding every frame; transcoding uses CPU but gives you control over output settings and can improve compatibility.
  • Compare the combined output bitrate with the VPS plan’s public bandwidth, and leave headroom for protocol overhead and normal variation. Check the plan’s current vCPU, RAM, NVMe storage, bandwidth, and traffic terms on OVHcloud’s VPS page. Plan details are market-specific and can change, so use the live listing rather than assuming a fixed configuration or price.
  • Allow memory and storage for the operating system, all concurrent FFmpeg processes, and the media files retained on the VPS.

Run one FFmpeg process per loop

The following command is an illustrative shape for one feed, not a tested command or universal bitrate recommendation. Replace the paths and ingest values with your own, then test against the installed FFmpeg build and actual media.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /srv/loops/stream-a.mp4
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 2500k
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k
  -f flv "$YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/$STREAM_KEY"
  • -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely.
  • -re reads a file at real-time pace rather than sending it as fast as possible.
  • -c:v libx264 and -c:a aac transcode to H.264 video and AAC audio. Re-encoding trades CPU use for output control and compatibility.
  • -b:v and -b:a set illustrative video and audio bitrates. The example’s video rate is not a recommendation for a particular resolution or frame rate.
  • -f flv selects the output container commonly used for RTMP ingest. Use the ingest protocol and URL YouTube provides for the stream.

Repeat the configuration with the second file and its own ingest destination. Do not accidentally point two independent loops at the same stream key: distinct content needs distinct feeds. Keep keys out of scripts committed to public repositories and avoid printing them in logs.

Choose output settings from YouTube’s guidance

Resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe behavior need to agree with the source and YouTube’s current encoder guidance. YouTube Help’s encoder table, accessed in 2026, lists these H.264 figures:

Output Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
1080p at 30 fps 4 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

For AV1 or H.265, the same table lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended at 1080p/30 fps, and 4 Mbps minimum and 12 Mbps recommended at 1080p/60 fps. Use the row for the codec and frame rate you actually configure; recommendations are not one-size-fits-all. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance for other formats and keyframe requirements.

Estimate capacity before adding feeds

Add the configured output bitrates for every concurrent feed, including audio, then allow practical headroom for protocol overhead and network variation. For example, two feeds each configured at 10 Mbps video plus 128 kbps audio require more than 20 Mbps of sustained outbound capacity in practice. Compare the aggregate with the OVHcloud plan’s published public bandwidth and traffic terms.

Network capacity alone does not determine capacity. Copying a compatible, already encoded stream is typically less compute-intensive than transcoding, but actual CPU demand depends on the media and output settings. Several transcodes can saturate vCPU and cause late frames. There is no source-supported fixed stream count for an OVHcloud VPS; benchmark the intended media and settings on the selected plan before relying on it unattended.

Test, supervise, and monitor each feed

Validate before unattended operation

  1. Start one feed and confirm in YouTube Live Control Room that the intended broadcast receives video and audio.
  2. Repeat for every feed, checking that each process targets the correct broadcast and has distinct logs.
  3. Test representative motion and sound, not just a still image or silent segment. Watch stream-health messages while the event is running.
  4. Run a longer trial to verify loop boundaries, audio continuity, file permissions, and behavior after an FFmpeg restart.
  5. Only then configure process supervision, such as separate system services with restart behavior and per-feed logs. A supervisor can restart a crashed encoder; it cannot prevent failures caused by the VPS provider, network, source file, or YouTube.

A running FFmpeg process does not by itself prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. YouTube’s LiveStreams health-status reference identifies issues such as unsupported codecs, low or high bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, missing or multiple audio/video streams, and video-ingestion starvation. It lists H.264 as a supported video codec and AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs.

Troubleshoot in a consistent order

  • The wrong loop appears, or two broadcasts show the same content: check each process’s input path, ingest target, and stream key. Match process names and logs to the broadcast labels.
  • YouTube shows no incoming video: inspect FFmpeg logs for input-read, encoder, and network errors, then confirm the process is sending to the intended ingest destination.
  • Live Control Room reports a codec or configuration problem: compare the actual output codec, bitrate, frame rate, and audio/video tracks with YouTube’s health messages and current encoder guidance.
  • Video is unstable or ingestion starves: compare aggregate configured bitrate with actual VPS egress and the plan’s bandwidth; then check network errors and whether the media input is being read continuously.
  • Frames arrive late when transcoding several feeds: inspect CPU use and test each feed separately. Reduce encoding workload or choose a plan with more suitable compute capacity rather than assuming bandwidth is the cause.
  • A loop stops or breaks at the boundary: verify the source file, its permissions, and its audio/video tracks; run a longer trial and inspect logs around the transition.
  • A feed stops after a process crash: configure and test a per-process supervisor restart. Recovery of the local process does not guarantee recovery from an upstream, network, or YouTube-side interruption.

When a self-managed VPS is the right fit

An OVHcloud VPS with FFmpeg is a fit when you want control over Linux processes and can manage per-feed configuration, supervision, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Select the plan from the actual aggregate egress and encoding workload, not a guessed streams-per-server figure. The published OVHcloud plan page is the place to verify current resource dimensions for your market.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want to administer an FFmpeg process and service for every loop, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud loops the uploaded video, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams, not camera broadcasts or other platforms.

  • Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card; the offer is one free day per account.
