Laravel example: request a full-page screenshot
Use screenshot => ['fullPage' => true] to request the entire scrollable page. Full-page capture is not the default: without that option, the screenshot covers the visible viewport. The nested Laravel parameters correspond to Microlink’s screenshot option object; its raw query-string equivalent is screenshot.fullPage=true. Why disable metadata?
meta => false is optional. Include it when you only need the image and do not need extracted page metadata; Microlink says skipping metadata extraction is usually its biggest speedup for screenshot-only requests, but gives no fixed latency improvement. Omit the parameter if your application uses the metadata in Microlink’s response. [Microlink screenshot guide]

Build the query string yourself only when needed
If you construct the request URL manually or use a different HTTP client, encode the query rather than concatenating values. This matters especially when the target page’s URL has its own query parameters. Microlink documents dot notation for the raw full-page parameter, and its PHP example uses http_build_query. Choose the capture and response that fit your use
Full page or viewport
screenshot.fullPage defaults to false. Set it to true for a screenshot of the scrollable page; leave it unset when you only want the visible viewport. PNG, JPEG, or a selected element
The screenshot type option can request PNG or JPEG; the SDK reference lists PNG as the default. JPEG quality applies when JPEG is selected. Microlink also documents a CSS selector option, screenshot.element, for capturing a specific element. That is a different goal from capturing the whole page, so do not combine it with the full-page example unless you have confirmed the behavior suits your use case. JSON response or embed mode
The usual response is JSON with screenshot information under data.screenshot, including the URL and potentially type, width, height, and size. This is useful when a backend needs to validate the result or use the associated metadata. Microlink’s guide also describes embed mode for cases that need the screenshot delivered directly or used as an image URL in HTML, CSS, or Markdown. Wait for dynamic content
A screenshot may be requested before application-specific content has finished rendering. Microlink’s content-method reference describes shared wait controls that apply before capture. Configure an appropriate wait condition when important content appears asynchronously; do not assume that every page’s client-side rendering will be complete without one. Handle failures and unexpected responses
Do not treat a successful HTTP exchange as proof that the image URL exists. Check both the HTTP response and Microlink’s JSON result before storing or presenting the URL.
- HTTP error:
$response->throw()surfaces non-success HTTP status codes as exceptions. Catch the exception at your application boundary if you need to log or translate failures. - API status is not success: the example checks the JSON
statusfield and stops if it is notsuccess. - Missing screenshot URL: the example validates
data.screenshot.urlas a non-empty string before using it. - Blank or incomplete capture: if the target relies on content that renders later, review the wait controls in Microlink’s content-method documentation and configure a suitable condition.
- Query option does not take effect: Laravel’s nested array is the intended representation in this example. For a custom HTTP client, inspect the encoded query and use Microlink’s documented raw form,
screenshot.fullPage=true.
Cost and access considerations
Microlink’s screenshot guide, accessed October 3, 2026, states that the API works without an API key and offers 25 free requests per day. The guide says production plans unlock options including configurable TTL, stale-while-revalidate caching, custom filenames, custom headers, and proxy. These are vendor-stated details that can change; check the current guide for availability, and do not assume a particular option belongs to a particular plan without checking current plan information.
