Start by checking which OBS counter is rising: network dropped frames point to the connection between your computer and the streaming service, while rendering lag or encoding lag points to local performance. They need different fixes. If OBS shows no drops but viewers report buffering, investigate playback and bitrate compatibility instead. For a continuous stream, note the counters and symptoms before changing settings.
Identify what OBS is reporting
In OBS, open View > Stats while streaming. Watch the dropped-frames, rendering-lag, and encoding-lag indicators. Their exact presentation can vary by OBS version, so share your version and the Stats window if you need targeted advice.

Do not treat every choppy-looking stream as network lag. Record which counter changes, when it changes, and whether the issue affects OBS, the platform preview, or viewers. That evidence helps avoid changing image settings to fix a network fault—or replacing network hardware to fix a busy scene.
Fix network-related dropped frames
Use a wired connection and isolate the path
OBS recommends a wired connection for stream stability. If you are on Wi-Fi, connect the streaming computer to the router with Ethernet and observe whether the dropped-frames counter changes. This is a diagnostic step, not proof that Wi-Fi was the only cause.

If drops continue, test the connection path one component at a time. OBS identifies the modem or router, network cable, network card, and other network devices as possible fault points. Swap or test a component before buying a replacement; a cable such as Cat6 is relevant only if testing points to the cable, not as a general cure.
Check software and drivers that can interfere
Temporarily test whether a VPN, security software, bundled network-management software, or an outdated network driver is affecting the connection. Follow the software vendor’s safe procedure when temporarily changing security protections, and restore protections afterward. Update network drivers through the computer or network-adapter manufacturer’s supported method.

Review OBS network options as diagnostics
OBS documents network optimizations, TCP pacing on Windows, Bind to IP (normally left at its default), IP family selection, and dynamic bitrate adjustment. These are diagnostic options, not guaranteed fixes; labels and availability can depend on platform and OBS version. Change one relevant option at a time and compare the Stats window and log rather than applying a bundle of changes.
Dynamic bitrate adjustment can lower the bitrate during congestion and may reduce frame dropping, but OBS warns it does not fix the underlying connection issue and reduces video quality. Treat it as a tradeoff when the connection problem cannot be resolved, not as a substitute for diagnosing that problem.

Escalate if the problem persists
If wired testing and software checks do not resolve recurring drops, keep notes about their timing and test suspected hardware. If the issue appears beyond your local equipment or connection, contact your internet service provider. OBS’s guidance does not establish a universal upload-speed target for this stream; the right bitrate depends on the platform, output settings, and connection stability.
Fix rendering or encoding overload
OBS needs GPU resources to composite and render scenes, and more complex scenes cost more resources. If rendering or encoding lag is rising while network dropped frames are not, reduce the load that the relevant counter points to.

- Reduce competing GPU work: close or limit other graphics-heavy applications and processes while OBS is running.
- Simplify the active scenes: remove sources you do not need and reduce costly filters or effects. If your animation setup uses browser or media sources, investigate those conditionally: the title alone does not establish which sources are in use.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator when GPU overload is the issue. This is one of OBS’s suggested measures for applicable performance cases, not a universal fix.
- Lower output resolution or frame rate only when measurements justify it. OBS suggests trying 30 fps if 60 fps is not working. That is an example, not a universal preset; lower settings change the stream’s appearance and motion.
After each change, observe the same Stats indicators under the same workload. If the suspected counter does not improve, revert the change where appropriate and investigate the other branch instead of continuing to lower quality by default.

Viewer buffering is not necessarily broadcaster frame loss. OBS notes that viewers use different locations, devices, and internet connections, and that buffering complaints can occur without OBS dropping frames. Check whether your bitrate is within the platform’s recommendations and appropriate for your intended audience. A lower bitrate may improve compatibility but can require a compromise in resolution, picture quality, or frame rate.

Whether the platform provides transcoding can affect which viewers can play a stream smoothly at a lower quality. The platform is not specified here, so there is no single platform setting or audience-reach guarantee to prescribe. Check the platform’s current live-stream guidance and available playback options.
What a 24/7 stream changes—and what it does not
A continuous stream gives recurring network, scene, or performance problems more opportunity to appear, so preserve timestamps, OBS Stats observations, and logs when an issue recurs. The OBS guidance cited here does not set a dedicated operating procedure, computer specification, universal bitrate, or uptime guarantee for 24/7 children’s animation streams. Exact settings require the platform, operating system, OBS version, output settings, and relevant stats or logs.
Children’s animation does not change the frame-loss diagnosis, but the rights and platform rules still matter. Use content you have permission to stream and check the platform’s current copyright and reused-content policies; uninterrupted technical operation does not establish that a stream is permitted or eligible for monetization.
