Wait for the page condition that actually signals readiness, then call page.screenshot(). For a general-purpose capture, Puppeteer’s documented pattern is page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' }) followed by a screenshot. If the page’s useful content appears later—or its network never becomes idle—wait for a page-specific selector instead.
Take a screenshot after navigation settles
Here is a complete Node.js example using Puppeteer. It opens a page, waits for the networkidle2 lifecycle condition, saves a PNG and closes the browser even if navigation or capture fails.

There is no single readiness condition that fits every website. Puppeteer’s page.goto() defaults to waiting for load and has a default navigation timeout of 30,000 ms. Its documented lifecycle choices include load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0 and networkidle2. When multiple lifecycle events are supplied, navigation waits until all of them have fired. See Puppeteer lifecycle events and WaitForOptions.

Use network idle for a general-purpose capture
networkidle2 is often a practical starting point: the lifecycle condition waits for a 500 ms window in which no more than two network connections are active. networkidle0 uses the same 500 ms window but requires zero active connections. These conditions can take longer or time out on pages that keep connections open, such as applications using persistent network activity. Definitions: Puppeteer lifecycle events.
Wait for the content your screenshot needs
Network activity settling does not guarantee that all useful content has rendered, and a page may keep making requests after the relevant content is visible. If the application exposes a reliable readiness element, wait for it directly. The following selector is illustrative; replace it with one that exists on the page and indicates that the desired content is ready.

Capture a full page or a single element
Full-page screenshot
Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page rather than just the viewport. The default is false; screenshot type defaults to PNG. More options are documented in ScreenshotOptions.

Wait for the target element, then call screenshot() on its element handle. Puppeteer scrolls the element into view when needed. The call throws if the element has been detached from the DOM before capture. See ElementHandle.screenshot().

- The screenshot is blank or missing late content: the chosen lifecycle event may have fired before the application rendered the content. Wait for a selector that marks the content ready, and confirm that the selector is present on this page.
- Navigation times out waiting for network idle: the page may keep network connections active. Try a less restrictive lifecycle condition such as
domcontentloaded, then wait for a meaningful selector; alternatively, usenetworkidle2instead ofnetworkidle0when up to two active connections are acceptable. - Element capture throws: the element handle may have become detached between finding the element and taking the screenshot. Find the element again after the page updates, or capture after the page reaches a stable state.
- The saved image shows only the viewport: set
