A blank ScreenshotAPI.net capture can mean either that the request failed or that it returned an image without the expected page content. Check the response and error first; if the request succeeded, verify the URL, selector, resource-blocking settings, and page-readiness signal before changing the timeout. No single wait option fixes every blank result.
1. Check whether the API returned an error or a blank image
Start with the response status, body, and error code. A valid image that happens to look white is a different problem from an API error or empty response. ScreenshotAPI.net’s error reference lists distinct conditions, including TLS errors, an inactive subscription, an empty response, and temporary unavailability. Follow the branch that matches the actual response rather than changing rendering delays immediately.
If the response is an error, resolve that condition first. If it is an image response but the page is absent or incomplete, continue with the page and capture settings below.
2. Verify the URL and any element selector
Confirm that the requested URL is the page you intend to capture and that the page is reachable by the rendering service. If you use selector-based capture, check that the CSS selector matches the intended element on the rendered page and that the element is present when the capture occurs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
ScreenshotAPI.net documents that a selector that does not match does not necessarily make the render request fail; the request may continue normally. That can make a selector problem look like a successful but empty capture. See the vendor’s rendering documentation for selector behavior.
3. Choose a wait strategy that matches the page
Pages differ in how they become ready. ScreenshotAPI.net documents a fixed delay, wait_for_selector, and wait_for_event=networkidle. Choose the signal that corresponds to the content you need rather than adding a long delay by default.

| Wait option | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
wait_for_selector |
A stable element appears when the page’s required content is ready. | Precise when the selector is reliable; a missing or late selector can leave the capture waiting or incomplete. |
wait_for_event=networkidle |
Content arrives through asynchronous requests that eventually settle. | Useful when network activity is a readiness signal, but not every page has a meaningful idle point. |
delay |
Content needs extra time for animation or delayed rendering and there is no better readiness signal. | Simple, but it guesses elapsed time and can waste time without resolving the underlying cause. |
ScreenshotAPI.net presents blank captures as often related to wait parameters; that is the vendor’s position, not a universal diagnosis. Its feature page and documentation describe the available controls.
4. Account for lazy-loaded content
Some pages defer images or other material until a section is brought into view or additional time has passed. If the top of the page renders but off-screen content is missing, use the documented lazy-loading behavior or otherwise cause the relevant section to load before capture. A wait alone will not necessarily load content that the page has not requested yet. ScreenshotAPI.net describes lazy loading and delay controls in its features and rendering documentation.

5. Review JavaScript and stylesheet blocking
Check whether the request blocks JavaScript or stylesheets. Blocking JavaScript can prevent a JavaScript-driven page from populating or running client-side behavior; blocking stylesheets removes visual formatting and may make a loaded page look unexpectedly blank or unstyled. Review block_js and stylesheet-related options before adding waits. ScreenshotAPI.net explains the effects of JavaScript blocking in its resource-control documentation.
6. Treat timeouts as a separate failure
ScreenshotAPI.net says a page that does not finish loading within its configured timeout is aborted. Its “Lazy Loading & Delay” documentation lists a default timeout of 100000 milliseconds. Raising the limit can help when a genuinely slow or heavy page needs more time; it will not fix an invalid URL, access restrictions, or a selector that never matches. Check the documentation for the current timeout options and behavior.

7. Use injected JavaScript only for a known interaction
If a page requires a specific action before it reveals content, ScreenshotAPI.net supports JavaScript injection before capture. Use it to perform that known interaction, not as a general cure for blank images. First identify what the page needs—for example, a particular state change—and then consult the vendor’s JavaScript injection documentation.
8. A practical troubleshooting order
- Inspect the response and error code; distinguish a failed request from a valid but visually blank image.
- Confirm the target URL and, if applicable, verify the selector against the rendered page.
- Choose a readiness signal: a specific selector, network idle, or a short delay for a known timing issue.
- Check whether lazy-loaded sections need to be brought into view or otherwise triggered.
- Remove JavaScript or stylesheet blocking if the page depends on those resources.
- Adjust timeout only when the page genuinely needs more load time.
- Use JavaScript injection only when a specific page interaction is required before capture.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a selector-based capture look blank even though the request succeeded?
The selector may not match the element, and ScreenshotAPI.net says a non-matching selector does not necessarily produce a request error. Verify the selector against the rendered page and use a readiness signal that confirms the intended element is present.
Should I always use network idle for a blank capture?
No. Network idle suits pages whose asynchronous requests eventually settle. A stable selector is more precise when it marks readiness, while a delay is a fallback for known animation or delayed rendering.
Can increasing the timeout fix a blank ScreenshotAPI.net image?
Only if the page genuinely needs more time to finish loading. A longer timeout does not fix an invalid target, access restriction, or missing selector.
