First work out whether the problem affects one viewer or many, then compare YouTube’s stream-health messages with encoder logs at the times the pauses occur. A smooth preview on your own screen does not prove the public stream is healthy.
First find out who is buffering
One viewer’s report does not, by itself, show that your broadcast is faulty. Ask affected viewers to try the public watch page on a second device, and, if possible, try the original device on another internet connection. Compare reports from viewers on unrelated networks.
- One device is affected: Start with that device’s browser or YouTube app, local Wi-Fi, player quality selection, and ability to decode the video.
- Several viewers on one shared connection are affected: Check that connection and the devices using it before changing your broadcast settings.
- Viewers on separate networks pause at the same time: Investigate the incoming stream, YouTube’s health messages, and encoder logs.
For each report, note the time and time zone, device, connection, selected player quality, whether audio or video stopped, and whether other viewers saw the same pause. At those timestamps, record YouTube’s health indicator and any encoder messages about dropped frames or reconnects. This helps distinguish a recurring broadcast problem from a local playback issue. StreamNeo also describes separating the encoder-to-platform path from the platform-to-viewer path in its 24/7 buffering diagnostic; treat its guidance as vendor advice, not a diagnosis of your channel.
Check whether YouTube is receiving a healthy feed
Read the Live Control Room and encoder messages together
Open YouTube Live Control Room and check the stream-health warnings for the times viewers report buffering. Compare them with encoder logs for low or unstable bitrate, dropped frames, reconnects, unsupported video or audio format, and keyframe frequency. A healthy-looking local preview only shows what the encoder is previewing; it does not establish that enough video is reaching YouTube consistently.

YouTube’s health documentation describes videoIngestionStarved this way: “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. As such, viewers will experience buffering.” The same documentation identifies bitrate, codecs, frame rate, and consistency between primary and backup streams as relevant configuration areas. See YouTube’s LiveStream health-status messages.
Verify keyframes, format, and backup-stream consistency
Check that your encoder’s format and settings meet YouTube’s current requirements for the resolution and frame rate you selected. YouTube’s live streaming error messages include this warning: “Please use a keyframe frequency of four seconds or less. Currently, keyframes are not being sent often enough, which can cause buffering.” If YouTube reports a keyframe problem, confirm the encoder is sending keyframes at least that often.

If you use primary and backup ingest, YouTube says the relevant settings must match, including resolution, codecs, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe frequency. Check the platform’s current guidance rather than assuming a setting that works for one resolution or frame rate is suitable for another.
Review latency for a non-interactive mantra stream
Lower latency can make audience interaction feel more immediate, but it leaves less read-ahead buffer between the encoder and viewer. That trade-off can make viewers more likely to notice delivery interruptions. For a mantra stream that does not depend on live conversation or rapid audience interaction, check whether Low or Ultra-low latency is necessary. YouTube identifies Normal latency as its best choice for non-interactive streams and the option with the lowest amount of viewer buffering. Its guidance says: “Choose ‘Normal latency’ if you don’t plan to interact with your audience in the live stream.” See YouTube’s explanation of live-streaming latency.

Test the broadcaster’s upload path only when the evidence points there
If the encoder logs show network drops or unstable delivery, test the broadcaster’s upload connection and consider reducing stream demand if it is too close to that connection’s reliable capacity. If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable diagnostic test. It will not fix a viewer-specific device or connection problem, or a platform delivery issue.
Cloudflare’s Stream troubleshooting guidance recommends Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi when its stated upload test is below 20 Mbps. That threshold is Cloudflare-specific guidance, not a universal YouTube requirement; do not treat it as a YouTube bitrate target. Cloudflare also recommends checking bitrate and upload-to-duration metrics.

Do not begin by replacing a router, changing resolution, or raising bitrate. First use matching timestamps, YouTube health warnings, and reports from viewers on different connections to identify which part of the delivery path needs attention.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check for a fault that repeats at the same point in the loop
If pauses recur at the same moment in a recording or playlist, compare the timestamp with scene transitions, changes between source files, and encoder metrics. A source-file or loop transition is one possible diagnostic lead, not an established cause of your particular buffering. If reports instead occur at varied times, focus on stream-health and delivery evidence rather than assuming a specific point in the content is responsible.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to keep the stream running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. This changes where the stream is run, but does not guarantee that every viewer’s device, connection, or YouTube playback path will be free of buffering.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, streamed as made without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; one free day per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for service details, or start the free day.
