To turn a webpage into editable Figma layers, use Figma’s Chrome extension: capture the whole page or select an element, then paste into a Figma Design canvas or FigJam board. For a static visual reference, take a regular browser screenshot and import or paste the image instead.
Capture a webpage as editable Figma layers
- Install the Figma Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store and sign in with the same Figma account you use in Figma. Figma documents the extension as available on all plans.
- Open the webpage in Chrome and launch the extension from the browser toolbar, or use its configured keyboard shortcut.
- Choose the capture scope. Select Select element, hover over the desired section, and click it to capture one element. Select Capture page to include content beyond the current viewport.
- Open a Figma Design file or FigJam board, click into the canvas, then paste with Command-V on macOS or Ctrl-V on Windows or Linux. The captured content is inserted as layers that you can move, edit, and restyle.
- If you want existing Figma variables to bind during paste, add the relevant library to the file first. Figma attempts to match variables using its own binding rules, so a match is not guaranteed.
Figma’s extension guide explains this capture-and-paste workflow: Use the Figma Chrome extension.
Choose editable layers or a flat screenshot
| Method | Best for | What lands in Figma | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figma Chrome extension | Editing the page structure, capturing one element, or capturing a whole page | Design layers such as frames, text, images, and shapes | Complex scripts, animation, canvas rendering, or virtualized content may not translate cleanly |
| Browser screenshot imported as an image | A quick visual reference or a faithful static snapshot | A raster image layer or image fill | The image is not decomposed into editable text and layout layers |
Figma supports common image formats including JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, and GIF; TIFF is supported in Safari. You can paste an image from the clipboard, drag a file onto the canvas, or upload it. Figma’s file browser can import PNG and JPG, and static image formats can also be imported directly into a Design file. See Figma’s image import guidance.
What the extension can and cannot reproduce
The extension translates available code behind webpage elements into Figma layers. It may preserve some auto layout and font properties, and can use variables when available. Treat the result as editable starting material, not a guaranteed pixel-perfect copy of the live page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Figma cautions that complex scroll-driven pages, heavy JavaScript animation, canvas-rendered content, and virtualized lists may not translate cleanly. If the whole-page result is incomplete or distorted, capture the specific section with Select element instead. Figma’s coded-screen guide describes the methods and limitations: Bring your designs to life with code.
Troubleshoot capture and paste problems
- The extension does nothing when clicked: Chrome restricts extensions on some privileged pages, including
chrome://pages and the Chrome Web Store. Open the target website in a regular browser tab and try again. - Paste adds nothing: Click inside the Figma canvas first, then paste. Figma pastes the most recent extension capture; if needed, return to the webpage, capture again, and paste the new result.
- A variable does not bind: Add the library containing that variable to the Figma file before you paste. Figma’s matching behavior follows its binding rules, so not every variable is necessarily applied.
- The whole-page capture looks wrong: Pages built around animation, canvas, scroll-triggered effects, or virtualized content can be difficult to translate. Capture the relevant element rather than the full page.
For plugin access questions, note that Figma plugins are third-party scripts or applications, access depends on plan or seat, and only one plugin can run at a time. A plugin is not needed for the extension workflow. See Figma’s plugin documentation.

Other documented ways to bring a coded screen into Figma
Figma’s coded-screen guide also covers copying design layers from a Figma Make preview and using the generate_figma_design tool through the Figma MCP server. For an ordinary live webpage, the Chrome extension is the directly documented no-code option. The workflow is software-based; no special hardware is required.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean screenshot file of a webpage rather than editable Figma layers, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot with one GET request. It removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
