Use BrowserContext.setPermission() to set a browser permission for a site in Puppeteer. It takes an origin and permission descriptors with states such as granted. Use the context that owns the page you are testing; for the default browser context, Puppeteer also provides Browser.setPermission() as a shortcut.
Set a permission for a site
In current Puppeteer API documentation, permissions are configured with BrowserContext.setPermission(origin, ...permissions). Each permission argument pairs a permission descriptor with a state. For example, to grant geolocation to a page in a chosen context:

});Replace https://example.com with the page’s origin: the scheme and host, and port if applicable. Create or navigate the page using the same context so the permission applies to it.
Choose the right context
Set a permission on a specific context
Call setPermission() on the BrowserContext that contains the page under test. Puppeteer documents browser contexts as having isolated storage; choosing the right context also makes it clear which test session receives the permission.

Use the default-context shortcut
Browser.setPermission() is a convenience shortcut that applies to the browser’s default context. Use it when the page belongs to that context; otherwise, call setPermission() on the page’s own context.
Permission states and descriptors
The current API uses a descriptor and a state for each permission. For example, { permission: { name: 'geolocation' }, state: 'granted' } requests a grant. Choose a descriptor supported by the Puppeteer and browser versions in your project. The API references reviewed do not provide a complete compatibility matrix, so verify version-specific descriptor details against the reference for the version you have installed.

The next-version API reference allows '*' as the origin. Do not assume that wildcard support or every descriptor is available in every installed release; check your target version’s documentation.
Clear permission overrides after a test
Call clearPermissionOverrides() on the context when the test no longer needs its overrides:

await context.clearPermissionOverrides();This clears permission overrides for the whole context, not just one origin or one permission. If other test steps in that context depend on an override, clear it only after those steps finish.

Older examples use overridePermissions(origin, permissions), often with a permission-name array:

await context.overridePermissions('https://example.com', ['geolocation']);Puppeteer’s stable API reference marks overridePermissions() deprecated in favor of BrowserContext.setPermission(), and the next API documentation treats it as obsolete. Prefer the descriptor-and-state form in new code. The next API page also states that permissions not listed in the array are automatically denied; do not carry that behavior over as an assumption about the newer API without checking the documentation for your installed version.
Troubleshoot permission problems
- The page still shows a permission prompt or denial: confirm that the origin passed to
setPermission()matches the page’s origin, including scheme and non-default port, and that you set the permission on the page’s own context. - The method or descriptor is rejected: check the API reference for your installed Puppeteer version and browser. The available documentation does not establish a full version-compatibility matrix.
- A later test behaves differently: check whether earlier code changed permissions in the same context.
clearPermissionOverrides()is context-wide, so avoid clearing overrides until all steps that need them are complete. - An old tutorial uses
overridePermissions(): migrate tosetPermission()and provide a descriptor/state pair rather than treating the older permission array as the current interface.
