To prevent Hindi text from rendering with the wrong font in a Percy snapshot, confirm that the intended Devanagari-capable web font loads for the text, then wait for the page’s used fonts and layout to settle before taking the snapshot. In a browser automation test, await document.fonts.ready immediately before the Percy call. If the test browser looks correct but Percy does not, investigate whether Percy can discover and access the font asset.
Why Hindi fonts can mismatch in Percy
A Percy snapshot involves more than the browser displaying the page. The page is captured, assets are discovered, and the result is rendered for comparison. A font that loaded in your local test browser is not, by itself, proof that the font was available through Percy’s asset-discovery and rendering stages. BrowserStack’s Percy asset-discovery documentation describes this process and its troubleshooting guidance includes missing fonts and CSS.
Fonts may also load only when the browser first needs them. If the snapshot happens before the Hindi text’s font has loaded, the browser may capture fallback typography; when the intended font later appears, glyph shapes, widths, and line breaks can change. The CSS Font Loading API’s document.fonts.ready promise resolves when fonts used by the document and related layout work are complete.

Check that the intended font covers the Hindi text
- Inspect a representative Hindi text element. In the test browser’s developer tools, check its computed
font-familyand verify that the intended face is actually applied rather than merely listed in a stylesheet. - Verify the font declaration and coverage. Review the relevant
@font-facerule, itssrccandidates, and anyunicode-range. A subset can omit characters used on the page, so a font may work for some Hindi text but not other characters. MDN documents@font-faceand thesrcdescriptor. - Check the actual network request. In the browser’s network panel, confirm the selected font URL succeeds from the test environment. Look for incorrect URLs, CDN failures, authentication requirements, cross-origin restrictions, or blocked requests.
- Confirm which face wins. If the resource loads but the text still differs, check font matching and character coverage. A WOFF2 file is commonly recommended for web delivery, but changing formats will not repair a missing, blocked, or misconfigured font.
Wait for fonts before calling Percy
After the final page state and Hindi text are present, wait for the browser’s used-font set before taking the snapshot. Adapt the page handle and Percy call to your framework; the essential sequence is:

Ensure the text you want to capture is present and styled before awaiting it. If a client-side route change, asynchronous content update, or other action inserts Hindi text after the promise resolves, wait again after that change and before snapshotting.
Prefer this condition-based wait to an arbitrary timeout. A fixed sleep can be too short on a slow run and needlessly long on a fast one; waiting for the used fonts and associated layout work addresses the relevant state directly.

If the test browser is right but Percy is not
- Inspect Percy’s asset-discovery diagnostics. Check for font or stylesheet requests that failed, were omitted, or could not be accessed.
- Check host access. Confirm that the font’s host is reachable in the Percy capture flow and is not excluded or blocked by access rules.
- Compare the stages. Verify that the intended font request succeeded in the test browser, then verify that the same asset was available during Percy’s discovery and render process. Local correctness alone does not establish that Percy received the asset.
- Stabilize the capture state. Run at a consistent viewport and application state, and inspect the baseline, current render, and diff. Percy’s general guidance on WebdriverIO visual regression snapshots and reporting visual-regression bugs provides broader context for keeping captures comparable.
Percy’s asset-discovery documentation describes a default network-idle interval of 100 ms without new requests. That interval is part of asset discovery; it is not a substitute for waiting until your application has reached its intended state. Controls may depend on the Percy SDK and configuration version, so check the documentation for the version you use.
Troubleshooting Hindi font mismatches
