Use IMGKit, a Python wrapper, with the separate wkhtmltoimage executable. Install both, then set the output format to PNG:

)The Python package does not include the rendering executable. If IMGKit cannot find it, configure its path explicitly. This method uses Qt WebKit, so do not assume its output will match a current Chrome or Firefox render.
Install IMGKit and wkhtmltoimage
IMGKit is the Python wrapper; wkhtmltoimage does the actual rendering. Install the package and the executable separately. The executable is often distributed with the wkhtmltopdf package. See IMGKit’s documentation for installation and usage details.

On some headless server configurations, IMGKit documents that Xvfb may be needed. Linux builds also vary: some Debian or Ubuntu repository builds omit Qt patches and consequently have reduced functionality. Check the specific executable and build when a feature behaves differently than expected.
Render a URL as a PNG file
Give from_url an explicit URL scheme, a destination ending in .png, and the PNG format option:

)Options are named without command-line dashes, so use format, not --format. IMGKit also provides from_file and from_string for local files and HTML strings; the same output-format approach applies when saving their rendered result.
Return image bytes instead of writing a file
If the next Python step needs the rendered image in memory, pass False as the output argument. IMGKit documents this form as returning the image data:

)Configure the executable when PATH lookup fails
IMGKit normally searches PATH for wkhtmltoimage. If the binary is installed elsewhere, pass its full path when creating the configuration object:

)Replace the example path with the executable’s actual location on your machine. Keep the URL and output path explicit so you can distinguish a binary lookup problem from a rendering or file-permission problem.
Adjust rendering for the target page
Use options only when the page or deployment needs them. IMGKit passes wkhtmltoimage options without the leading --; the command manual documents controls including width, height, JavaScript, delay, image loading, crop dimensions, local-file access, and load-error handling. See the wkhtmltoimage command manual for the available command-line behavior.

JavaScript and timing: JavaScript can be enabled or disabled, and
--javascript-delaycan add a wait before capture. A delay may help pages that populate content after initial load, but it does not guarantee that every asynchronous operation has finished. -
Images and page area: image loading and crop dimensions can be controlled with command options. Check the manual for exact option names and accepted values for the installed build.

Local resources: local-file access controls matter when the page refers to files on disk. Do not enable broader access than the page needs, particularly when rendering untrusted HTML.

Load errors: load-error handling options affect how the command responds to resource or page-load failures. Inspect the generated command and installed manual when the output is incomplete.

For repeatable captures, keep the viewport, JavaScript behavior, wait timing, remote assets, and renderer build consistent. The project describes wkhtmltoimage as using Qt WebKit; the cited documentation does not establish that it matches modern browser engines or their current CSS and JavaScript behavior. Its open-source project page is wkhtmltopdf.org.

“No wkhtmltoimage executable found”: confirm the executable is installed and on
PATH, or configure its absolute path throughimgkit.config(wkhtmltoimage=...). -
Failure on a headless server: some server setups need Xvfb. IMGKit documents an
xvfboption; follow its documentation for the server-specific setup. -

Blank, incomplete, or unexpectedly timed output: check that the URL is reachable from the machine running the script, confirm remote assets load, and tune viewport, JavaScript, and delay options for the page. These settings cannot make an unsupported browser feature render correctly.

The command fails or crashes: IMGKit recommends running the generated command directly to expose the underlying error; its documentation notes that some versions may fail with segmentation faults. Test the executable independently before changing Python code.

No PNG appears at the destination: verify that the output path is writable and ends in
.png, and thatoptions={"format": "png"}is passed to IMGKit.
