Add one Custom Widget as a native source
- In Streamlabs Desktop, click the + icon in the Sources panel.
- Scroll to Widgets, select Custom Widget, then click Add Source.
- Name the source in the dialog and add it to the scene.
- Open the source settings. Adjust Browser Settings if needed, expand Custom Code, and choose Edit Custom Code.
The editor provides Custom Fields, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Streamlabs documents this setup in its Custom Widget guide. Interface labels may vary if your installed Desktop version differs from the guide.
Edit the widget in the dashboard when you need more controls
Streamlabs supports editing a Custom Widget in Desktop or from its authenticated dashboard. It recommends the dashboard because custom fields are easier to view, more testing options are available, and switching themes is easier. Open the Custom Widget through your Streamlabs dashboard; this is not an account-free editor.
When you finish editing, confirm that the intended widget theme is active before you go live. The active theme controls which Custom Widget appears as the native widget source in Desktop.

Choose native source or Browser Source

Add a widget from any theme as a Browser Source
- Open the Widget Themes page in your Streamlabs dashboard.
- Click the link control next to the theme that contains the widget you want.
- Find Custom Widget and copy its URL.
- In Streamlabs Desktop, click + in Sources, select Browser Source, and add it.
- Paste the copied URL into the source settings, then set the width and height to suit the widget in your scene.
Use this process separately for each Custom Widget you want to show. It lets you use widgets from themes that are not active, rather than changing the active theme just to access one.

Add multiple Custom Widgets without changing the active theme
A widget theme stores widget settings, including its Custom Widget. Because the native source follows the active theme, it is not the route Streamlabs prescribes for showing several Custom Widgets tied to different themes at once. Add each desired widget as its own Browser Source using that theme’s URL and appropriate dimensions.
If you are creating another custom widget, create another widget theme, make that theme active while editing the widget, and repeat as needed. Before streaming, check that your active theme contains the intended widgets wherever you are using native widget sources.

Protect your stream when using custom code
Custom Widgets can run HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so treat code as executable content rather than harmless scene decoration. Streamlabs warns: “Because of the inherent risks of using custom code, we remind you to be extra careful when using code that you did not write.” Use code you trust and understand. Streamlabs also says its team cannot advise users on creating their widgets.
Troubleshoot a Custom Widget that keeps loading
Native source keeps loading on macOS
Streamlabs Support documented a macOS case in which a natively added Custom Widget continually loads. Its article, dated April 25, 2025 and marked Workaround Available, recommends editing the widget in the dashboard, copying its URL, then adding it to Desktop as a Browser Source. This is a documented option for that reported case, not evidence that every macOS installation has a general loading defect. See the macOS troubleshooting article.

Wrong widget appears in the scene
Check whether the intended theme is active if you added a native Custom Widget. If you need a widget associated with another theme, use that theme’s Custom Widget URL as a Browser Source.
Widget is clipped or too small
For a Browser Source, revisit its width and height settings and size them to the widget’s layout. A URL can load correctly while the source dimensions still prevent the full widget from appearing in the scene.
