The filing is part of a lender-backed restructuring: Leslie’s says the plan would eliminate about $685 million in funded debt and give existing lenders majority ownership. The announced closures and the company’s projected early-2027 exit from bankruptcy are plans, not proof that every step is complete.
What Leslie’s announced
Leslie’s, a Phoenix-based pool and spa supply retailer, said it had entered a restructuring support agreement with a group of its existing lenders when it filed for Chapter 11 on September 30, 2026. The company announced that 76 stores would close. Its announcement was reported by AZFamily on September 30.
Chapter 11 allows a business to reorganize under court supervision while it works through a restructuring plan. In Leslie’s case, the agreement with existing lenders is central to that plan; the filing does not mean the company has already completed its restructuring or that all announced store closures have occurred.
What the restructuring is intended to change
Leslie’s said its plan would eliminate approximately $685 million, or about 90%, of its outstanding funded debt and give its existing lenders majority ownership. The company described the deal as a way to strengthen its balance sheet and create greater financial flexibility.

CEO Jason McDonell characterized the plan as supporting reinvestment in operations and customer experience, including in stores and online. He also said, “Leslie’s is here to stay.” That is the company’s assurance at announcement time, not a guarantee of future performance or a statement that every store will remain open.
Orlando Business Journal reported on October 2 that the bankruptcy petition was filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and listed more than $1.2 billion in debt. That figure is the outlet’s account of the petition; the petition itself is not independently confirmed here. Orlando Business Journal’s report provides that filing context.

How many stores are closing—and when?
The 76 stores are the announced first wave, not necessarily the full number of locations that could eventually close. Phoenix Business Journal reported October 1 that Leslie’s had closed 80 stores and one distribution center in the preceding 12 months, and that the company was considering as many as 200 store closures during Chapter 11. The 200 figure is a possibility under consideration, not an announced closure total. Phoenix Business Journal’s report describes those figures.
The September 30 announcement did not immediately provide the 76 locations. A later business-journal report said the first-wave stores had either already shut or were expected to close by mid-October. That wording distinguishes completed closures from planned ones; it does not establish that all 76 had closed by that date. The sources available also do not establish a complete official location list or store-by-store service guidance.

What this means if you shop at Leslie’s
If you need to know whether a particular store is open, confirm directly with that location or through Leslie’s current store information before making a trip. The reporting cited here does not confirm each affected address, current hours, or the status of services at individual stores. It likewise does not establish how a specific closure affects returns, warranties, orders, or other customer matters, so check with Leslie’s for guidance on your transaction rather than assuming a company-wide policy.

Leslie’s said it expects to complete the restructuring and emerge from Chapter 11 in early 2027. That is a company target, not a court-approved or completed outcome. The company’s expected timing, store-closure plans, and restructuring terms may change as the case proceeds.
