You can rebroadcast a YouTube Live replay by sending the recording through an encoder to a new YouTube Live stream, then setting the encoder to loop or restart the file. YouTube does not provide a native one-click option to turn an archived event into an always-on channel. The do-it-yourself approach requires a computer and encoder to keep running; a cloud option can handle the loop without leaving your computer on.

Before you start: find the replay and check its rights

Find a usable recording

In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live and locate the event. YouTube can automatically archive streams that are less than 12 hours long; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording as a backup rather than relying on the YouTube archive alone. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the limits.

If the replay is unavailable, damaged, or not suitable as a continuous source, use a verified local recording instead. A loop only works as well as the source file: check its beginning and ending, audio levels, and picture before putting it on air.

Confirm permission for the rebroadcast

Make sure you have the rights needed to rebroadcast both the video and its audio, including music. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have necessary rights for worldwide use of Live Content, including applicable music rights. Permission to host the original event does not necessarily cover a new rebroadcast. Review YouTube’s live-stream terms and resolve any licensing questions before going live.

How to rebroadcast the replay with an encoder

  1. Create or schedule a new stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and choose the encoder workflow. Create a new live stream or schedule one. Scheduling can let viewers receive reminders and lets you reuse stream settings. Follow YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder.
  2. Copy the stream URL and key. In the stream setup, copy the server or stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep it private, and reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed. See Manage live stream settings.
  3. Load the replay into your encoder. Select the saved event recording as the video source. Configure a repeat or restart arrangement so the file begins again when it ends. The exact control depends on the encoder; test the full end-to-start transition before using it for an ongoing broadcast.
  4. Preview before going live. Start the encoder output and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the picture and audio are correct, then start the YouTube stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers connecting, previewing, and starting the stream.
  5. Keep watch and preserve a backup. Monitor audio, video, and stream status. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality and checking the integrity of a local archive. A loop or restart is an encoder setup, not a YouTube guarantee of uninterrupted service; the computer, encoder, network, or YouTube connection can still fail.

Choose an operating setup that can keep running

A software encoder is a practical choice if you can leave a computer running and monitor it. YouTube also describes hardware encoders for more specialized production setups. Whichever you use, check how it handles file looping, recovery after a dropped connection, monitoring, and the ongoing cost of keeping the system available. YouTube does not publish a reliability ranking for encoder products in the cited setup guidance.

For a local setup, plan for the computer and network to remain available for the entire broadcast. If either stops, the outgoing stream can stop too. A remote/cloud encoder is an alternative when you do not want a home computer to be the part that must stay on.

Copyright, archives, and monetization risks

Live copyright checks apply to the replay

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match is unresolved, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the live stream; an archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. Check that your permissions cover this new live use, not only the original event. YouTube explains live-stream copyright checks.

Do not assume a loop will qualify for monetization

YouTube’s monetization rules apply to live streams and call for content to be original and “authentic.” Its July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. The policy does not decide every case involving a replay loop, so monetization eligibility is uncertain; do not budget on the assumption that repeating one event will earn revenue. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • No replay appears in Content > Live: check whether the event exceeded 12 hours, since YouTube says such streams may not be archived. Look for the local recording you retained as a backup.
  • YouTube receives no encoder signal: verify that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key, and that its output is running. If the key may have been exposed or changed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
  • The preview is blank or has the wrong audio: confirm the encoder is using the intended source file and audio track. Test playback locally, then check the preview before starting the public stream.
  • The video stops at the end: verify the encoder’s loop or restart setting and test the transition. A replay does not loop automatically merely because it is connected to a live stream.
  • The stream is interrupted or terminated: check for third-party-content matches and any notices in Live Control Room. Resolve rights issues and confirm the connection and encoder are still operating before restarting.
  • The stream drops when nobody is home: the local computer, encoder, or internet connection may have stopped. A local setup depends on those components staying available; consider a cloud encoder if you need the playback process to run remotely.
