No. YouTube’s guidance for India says to verify your channel using a phone number—not Aadhaar. Phone verification can unlock intermediate features, including computer live streaming, provided your channel also meets YouTube’s age and live-streaming requirements.
How to verify an India-based channel for live streaming
- In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Under Intermediate features, select Verify phone number.
- Choose text message or voice call, enter your phone number, and submit the code YouTube sends.
- Return to Feature eligibility to check the channel’s status. YouTube says the phone-verified label is visible to users in India; its India-specific guidance describes confirming identity via a phone number as the route to intermediate features (YouTube Help: Get “phone verified” as an India-based channel).
YouTube does not identify Aadhaar submission as a requirement in this phone-verification flow. Its India-specific page says the phone-number process is connected with the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021; it does not instruct creators to provide Aadhaar.
Other requirements for going live
Live streaming from a computer
YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements are channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a creator who is at least 16 years old. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. The official guide states: “To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming)
Live streaming from the YouTube mobile app
Mobile live streaming has extra conditions: at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, live streaming turned on, and a supported Android or iOS device. Below 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the mobile live audience and set the archive to private by default. These are YouTube policy thresholds, not Aadhaar requirements (YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile).

If phone verification is complete but you still cannot stream
- Check Feature eligibility: In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and review the channel’s actual status.
- Check age and restrictions: Confirm that the creator meets the minimum age and that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the past 90 days.
- Allow for first-time activation: If live streaming was just enabled, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- For mobile, check the additional threshold: The channel needs at least 50 subscribers and a supported device. Below 1,000 subscribers, mobile audience limits and private-by-default archives may apply.
- Distinguish intermediate from advanced features: Phone verification unlocks intermediate features. Advanced-feature access is separate and may require sufficient channel history or ID/video verification if YouTube offers that option to the creator. Check the Feature eligibility page for your channel’s status (YouTube Help: Get access to advanced features).
YouTube’s cited guidance does not say Aadhaar is required to unlock live streaming. If Studio shows an advanced-feature issue, follow the requirements shown for that feature; that is a separate matter from the phone verification used for intermediate features.
