- Decide where you want to edit. Canva explicitly documents opening generated ideas in its editor. For the other options, verify the current editing workflow and controls on the vendor’s page or in your account.
- Check plan access before building a routine around a feature. vidIQ says availability depends on plan and account setup. Limits and pricing can change, so confirm current terms directly with each vendor rather than relying on old comparisons.
- Judge the thumbnail against the actual video. Confirm that the image and wording accurately represent the content, remain readable at small size, and do not promise something the video does not deliver. Generation is a starting point, not evidence of likely click-through performance.
No comparative click-through evidence establishes that AI thumbnails increase CTR or that one of these tools outperforms the others. Treat performance as something to assess for your own audience, not a guaranteed result from a generator.

Follow YouTube’s thumbnail rules and AI guidance
YouTube’s thumbnail policy applies to thumbnails and other images and lists content creators must not post. Review the current YouTube thumbnail policy before publishing; platform rules can change.
YouTube’s Help documentation includes thumbnails among examples of production assistance involving generative AI and describes an AI-use setting in YouTube Studio. Separately, a May 27, 2026 announcement said YouTube was rolling out internal signals to identify significant photorealistic AI use and might automatically apply a label if its systems detected it without creator disclosure. YouTube said that label alone does not change recommendations or eligibility to earn money. That announcement does not establish that every AI-generated thumbnail needs a visible label.
