If you want to keep prerecorded video running as a YouTube live stream, the practical alternatives depend on whether you want to operate the stream yourself or use a cloud service. OBS Studio is the strongest documented do-it-yourself option: it can loop a local video file or a VLC playlist, but your computer, internet connection, and monitoring remain your responsibility. For a cloud-run YouTube stream, StreamNeo is an option that loops uploaded videos without leaving a computer on. Muvi Live is a broader hosted streaming platform, not simply a loop player.
Which Muvi Live alternative fits your YouTube loop?
These options do different jobs, so compare the operating model before comparing feature lists:
| Option | Where it runs | What it suits | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud | A YouTube channel that needs an uploaded video or playlist to loop continuously without a home computer running. | Plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. |
| OBS Studio | Your computer | A local, do-it-yourself stream with scene and source controls, looping one local file or a VLC playlist. | You operate the computer, network connection, encoder, and monitoring; the documentation does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation or cloud failover. |
| Muvi Live | Hosted platform, as described by Muvi | A broader workflow involving a video library, recurring events, HLS delivery, recording, monetization, and other hosted features. | Muvi describes a broad platform, but the exact YouTube-specific workflow for looping a video should be confirmed with the vendor. |
For a simple continuous YouTube output, a local OBS setup may be sufficient if you are prepared to operate it. Choose a hosted service when avoiding local operation or using a broader managed workflow matters. Muvi’s own product pages describe its features; they are not independent performance measurements. Its described scope includes a video library, HLS links generated through its CMS, recurring live events, recording, live chat, encoder support, apps, monetization, and infrastructure and security functions. Muvi also describes YouTube among its social destinations and recurring event streams that reuse a stream key and URL. Muvi’s live streaming page and event-streaming page provide its descriptions.

Loop a local video with OBS Studio
OBS’s official documentation supports looping a local media file and looping or shuffling a VLC playlist. This is a local production workflow: OBS plays the source in a scene and sends the stream from your computer. The instructions below describe the documented workflow, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will run continuously. OBS Media Sources documents the loop controls; the page is dated January 11, 2022.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Option 1: loop one local video file
- Install OBS Studio and open it. Create or select a scene in the Scenes panel.
- In Sources, select + and choose Media Source. Give the source a name, then select OK.
- In the Media Source properties, enable Local File if it is not already selected, then browse to the video file.
- Enable Loop so playback restarts when the file finishes. Adjust the source in the preview to fit the scene as needed, then select OK.
- Check the scene preview and audio meters. Confirm that the file plays as intended before starting a long broadcast.
Option 2: loop a playlist with VLC Video Source
- Install VLC in addition to OBS. The OBS documentation notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC for the VLC Video source.
- In OBS Sources, select + and choose VLC Video Source. If it is missing, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
- Add the local video files to the source’s playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart after the playlist ends. Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want the items played in random order rather than in listed order.
- Check playback, transitions between files, and audio in the preview before going live.
OBS’s Sources Guide explains media sources and VLC playlists. Its Quick Start Guide explains scenes, sources, and the Auto-Configuration Wizard, which considers intended use, computer resources, and network conditions.

Connect OBS to YouTube and start the stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and retrieve its stream key. Use the current YouTube Studio labels and instructions shown for your channel; account eligibility and live-stream setup requirements can vary.
- In OBS, open Settings and then Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and connect your account or enter the stream key, using the method available in your OBS version.
- Open Settings and then Output to review the streaming encoder settings. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard if you need a starting point based on your hardware and network; verify the resulting settings rather than assuming they fit every connection.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate in Settings > Video. Choose settings your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. There is no universally safe bitrate or keyframe value for every resolution, frame rate, encoder, and connection; follow the current YouTube live encoder guidance for the stream’s target settings.
- Select Start Streaming in OBS. Check YouTube Studio’s live control room for the incoming stream and watch both the preview and OBS for dropped frames, playback interruptions, or audio problems.
- Keep the computer awake, OBS open, and the network connected while the broadcast is running. Monitor the stream and have a recovery plan for power, software, or internet interruptions.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start the StreamNeo free day.
Compare operating needs, not just feature names
Muvi Live and OBS are not interchangeable products. OBS is an encoder and production application running on your computer; Muvi describes a hosted platform with a CMS and streaming infrastructure. StreamNeo is narrower: cloud looping of uploaded videos to YouTube. Use these questions to decide what to verify before committing:

- Where should the stream run? OBS runs locally; a cloud service avoids relying on your home computer being on. For a managed platform, verify its specific continuity and recovery commitments rather than assuming them.
- Do you need one loop or scheduled programming? OBS supports a local file loop or VLC playlist loop and shuffle. Muvi describes recurring events and HLS playlist delivery, but its exact YouTube loop workflow should be checked with Muvi.
- Are other destinations or hosted playback required? OBS can be configured for a chosen streaming platform. Muvi says it supports simulcasting to YouTube and other listed social platforms and describes HLS delivery. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only.
- Are recording, access control, or monetization essential? Muvi describes recording, security, and monetization features. Confirm current plan limits and how each feature applies to the workflow you intend to use.
- What is the real operating cost? OBS software is not the full cost of a local setup: hardware, power, connectivity, and time spent monitoring may matter. The current pricing and plan limits of Muvi and other managed platforms are not established here, so check directly with each provider.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Only stream videos you have the right to broadcast. A video playing as a live stream still contains the same underlying music, footage, artwork, and other material as the file itself; looping it does not grant permission. Check licenses and permissions for every element, including background music and third-party clips, before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
Copyright permission and YouTube monetization eligibility are separate questions. Reused or repetitive programming may raise channel-policy concerns even when you have permission to use the material. Review YouTube’s current live-stream, copyright, and monetization policies for your channel and content; do not treat a successful encoder connection as approval of the video or a guarantee of monetization.

Troubleshooting a looping YouTube stream
The VLC Video source is missing in OBS
OBS’s VLC source depends on VLC being installed. Install VLC and check that its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture matches OBS; OBS’s documentation specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
The video stops at the end instead of restarting
For a single file, open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, enable Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. These are separate controls.
The stream does not appear in YouTube Studio
Check that OBS is connected to the intended YouTube channel and that the stream key is entered correctly. Confirm the live event is configured in YouTube Studio and that OBS shows streaming rather than merely previewing the scene. If you regenerate a key in YouTube, update the value OBS uses.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPlayback stutters, drops frames, or stops
Check OBS’s dropped-frame and encoding indicators, then reduce the load: use a lower output resolution or frame rate, review encoder settings, close unnecessary applications, or improve the network connection. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can offer a starting point, but actual performance depends on the computer and connection. A local workflow has no documented cloud failover guarantee.
The playlist plays but the order is unexpected
Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. Turn it off for listed-order playback, or leave it on when randomized order is intended.
