You can start a study-with-me livestream from the YouTube app on an eligible Android phone, but YouTube’s documented mobile workflow is for a stream you start and manage—not an unattended 24/7 broadcast. Open YouTube → Create → Live, set the stream details, then tap Go live. If you need a stream to keep running while you are away, use a continuous-stream setup rather than assuming the phone app will restart or run indefinitely.
Check whether your channel and phone can go live
YouTube’s mobile-live instructions require a verified channel, at least 50 subscribers, live streaming enabled, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and Android 8.0 or later. You must also be at least 16 to livestream. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the study session rather than just before you plan to start.
Channels with 50 to 999 subscribers may face an audience limitation on mobile streams, and the archive may be private by default. After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, YouTube says it may take several weeks to remove the limitation. Check the stream’s visibility and audience settings before going live. All live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; switching to another channel is not a way to evade a restriction.

Start a study-with-me livestream in the YouTube Android app
- Prepare the channel. Confirm mobile-live eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Open the live setup. In the YouTube app, tap Create, then Live.
- Set up the stream. Enter its title and other details, then review visibility and audience settings. You can schedule a stream for later. For a typical study-with-me session, choose the camera view that shows your desk or study space rather than screencasting your phone.
- Start the stream. When you are ready, tap Go live. To start a scheduled stream, return to Create → Live, open the calendar, and select the scheduled stream.
- End the session. Tap Finish when you are done. YouTube creates an archive that you can edit or delete; check its visibility if you want viewers to replay it.
YouTube’s mobile guide also describes a private Live Practice Mode for rehearsing the setup and interaction style without a real audience. It is rolling out, so it may not be available on every account.

Can an Android phone run the stream unattended 24/7?
YouTube’s mobile instructions cover creating or scheduling a stream, starting it, and tapping Finish. They do not document an unattended phone workflow, automatic restarts, or a guarantee that an Android phone will stay live around the clock. YouTube describes mobile as suited to “vlogging and quick updates from your phone or tablet.” Its encoder documentation separately lists services whose descriptions include continuous 24/7 broadcasting.

For a session you can personally start, monitor, and finish, the app is the direct option. If the requirement is genuinely continuous and unattended, investigate a cloud or encoder setup instead. YouTube’s directory shows that such options exist; its listing does not independently verify a provider’s reliability, current prices, or marketing claims.

Choose vertical or horizontal framing before you start
Pick the orientation for the scene and viewing context. A vertical stream can appear in YouTube’s full-screen mobile live experience and may be discoverable while people browse Shorts. A horizontal 16:9 frame shows more width, which can suit a desk, books, timer, and study materials together and larger screens. YouTube’s horizontal live feed supports features such as clickable chat or description links and live midroll or pre-roll ads that the vertical live feed does not; availability of features can depend on eligibility.

- Choose vertical (9:16) if the study scene fits a narrow frame and mobile viewing is the priority.
- Choose horizontal (16:9) if you need a wider view or want the stream to suit laptops and TVs.
- Plan the composition first. YouTube Studio on a computer can create horizontal and vertical formats together by default, but the documented setup is not a phone-app setting, and you cannot add the format after the stream has started.

Plan for monitoring, interruptions, and replay
For a manually operated phone stream, make a short test before a real session. YouTube recommends test livestreams. Its encoder guidance recommends checking the Live Control Room preview, confirming that the event is viewable on channel or watch pages and mobile devices, and monitoring audio and video quality. Those controls are described for encoder broadcasts, so do not assume the app presents an identical monitoring interface.

- Frame the desk so the intended study scene is visible and the phone is secure. A compatible adjustable phone mount or tripod is optional, not a YouTube requirement.
- Check that viewers can hear any intended audio and that the video looks as expected during your test.
- Plan how you will watch for problems and end the stream. The mobile instructions do not promise automatic recovery if the stream disconnects.
- Do not assume a long stream will produce a complete replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup, but its guidance here does not establish how to do that reliably using only an Android phone while livestreaming.
- DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Disabling DVR is not supported for mobile streams.
No source cited here establishes a minimum network speed, battery runtime, temperature limit, or Android background-behavior guarantee for this use. Do not treat any of those as assured by the app workflow.
