The sale price was not disclosed. BusinessCloud said unspecified reports suggested an eight-figure sum, but that figure is unconfirmed.
How much did StudyStash sell for?
No confirmed purchase price is available in the reviewed reporting. BusinessCloud described the price as undisclosed and said reports suggested an eight-figure amount. Its explanation that eight figures would mean at least $10 million is a description of that reported range, not a confirmed transaction value. The report does not establish the deal structure or final consideration.
Who founded StudyStash?
Ben Ward and Jonathan Graham founded StudyStash while studying computer science at the University of Birmingham, BusinessCloud reported. Ward was to remain CEO and Graham CTO after the acquisition, continuing to lead the brand. The founders developed the service to address their own need to turn course notes into useful study materials. They also worked together on PwC’s technology degree apprenticeship, took part in the University of Birmingham’s Elevate incubator, and the university became StudyStash’s first customer, according to the report.
What is StudyStash?
StudyStash is a digital study platform that turns existing course materials into adaptive learning aids. BusinessCloud describes features including flashcards, practice tests and podcasts, along with integrations for Canvas, Blackboard and Moodle. Those are reported product features, not independent test results.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The institutional focus is central: rather than asking students to move their course materials into an unrelated standalone app, the platform is described as fitting into learning systems universities already use. That approach also aligns broadly with Kortext’s stated work in digital content, teaching, learning, data and analytics, and its Kortext study and Kortext IQ platforms. The strategic fit is apparent from the companies’ descriptions, but Kortext’s website does not independently verify this specific acquisition.
How did two graduates build and sell an AI study platform so quickly?
The reported path began with a student problem, then moved through an initial institutional customer and university support into broader institutional relationships. BusinessCloud says StudyStash gained adoption among universities and other education partners, but the available account does not give a detailed chronology of product development, financing or negotiations. It therefore supports a description of the route to growth, not a complete explanation of the sale.

From personal need to institutional product
Ward and Graham started by converting course notes into learning materials for their own use. Their university became the first customer, and the founders participated in the University of Birmingham’s Elevate incubator. That combination gave the product an early institutional setting as well as a practical problem to solve.

Adoption is not the same as proof of outcomes
BusinessCloud reported one Washington-state university comparison in which dropout rates were zero among StudyStash students and 16% among non-users. The report excerpt does not identify the institution or provide the methodology. This is a narrow reported comparison; it does not establish that StudyStash caused the difference or that the same result applies elsewhere.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the acquisition does—and does not—show
The reported deal brings a student-focused study product into a company whose stated portfolio serves higher education through digital content, learning platforms and analytics. StudyStash’s institutional integrations and reported university relationships help explain why it could fit that portfolio. But the available reporting does not establish the acquisition price, deal terms, or whether Kortext has independently confirmed the transaction in an announcement. Nor do reported user numbers or a single institutional comparison independently demonstrate learning effectiveness.
