What does “2.25-gallon capacity” mean in daily use?
The 2.25-gallon figure refers to the upper tank, not the volume of filtered water immediately available in the lower reservoir. GlacierFresh’s FAQ describes approximately 0.8 gallons of filtered-water reserve and 3 gallons of total system capacity. The upper reservoir and lower filtered-water reserve serve different purposes, so consider whether roughly 0.8 gallons ready in the lower tank is enough between refills for your household. Gravity operation also means water availability depends on filling the upper tank and allowing filtration to proceed.
