Sage said it acquired Paperless Environments on October 1, 2026, adding a construction-focused accounts-payable automation, document-management, and subcontractor-compliance business to its portfolio. The deal brings together existing workflow tools used with Sage construction products; Sage describes deeper integration as a future opportunity, not a change that has already happened.
What Sage acquired
Paperless Environments is a Louisiana-based software company founded in 2005, according to Sage’s acquisition announcement. Sage describes it as a construction specialist with more than two decades of industry experience, focused on accounts-payable automation, document workflows, and subcontractor compliance.
Paperless software captures and routes project records, checks invoice information against ERP data and purchasing requirements, and tracks subcontractor compliance documents. Mobile functions let teams submit material from jobsites and review or approve work remotely. The announcement says the software can work with Sage and non-Sage ERP systems, but does not name the non-Sage systems.

Why Sage says it made the deal
Sage’s stated aim is to connect finance, project, and field information more closely for construction customers. Sage Intacct Construction provides financial management and job costing; Paperless adds document handling and workflow across accounting offices, project teams, and jobsites. In Sage’s framing, bringing those capabilities closer together could reduce manual handling of invoices, records, and compliance paperwork.
#1 Best Overall
Dan Miller, Sage’s EVP of Financials and ERP, said contractors should not have to piece together information from finance, project, and field teams, and described Paperless’s experience as a way to reduce manual work across offices and jobsites. Paperless CEO Seth Dawson said joining Sage could help the company bring its experience to more customers and contribute to construction technology development. These are the companies’ stated views of the deal, not measured outcomes from the acquisition.
Which Sage products Paperless works with
Sage’s announcement names three current product connections. It cautions that the extent and functionality of integration vary by product.
Rank #2
| Sage product | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|
| Sage Intacct Construction | Paperless currently connects through APIs. Sage says closer integration may be an opportunity over time; it does not announce a completed change or detailed roadmap. |
| Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate | Listed as compatible. The announcement does not specify the integration method or detailed feature scope. |
| Sage 100 Contractor | Listed as compatible. The announcement does not specify the integration method or detailed feature scope. |
A Sage support article for Sage 300 CRE describes Sage Paperless Construction as centralizing project and accounting documents and automating invoice routing and approvals. It also lists customizable index fields, security controls, revision tracking, mobile tools, and audit history. Those features are described in Sage’s support article; buyers should confirm which apply to their specific product setup.

What changes for existing customers
Sage says existing customers and integrations will continue to be supported, with no immediate changes to how customers use Paperless or work with Sage. That is an assurance about the immediate transition; the announcement does not provide a long-term product roadmap, service-level guarantee, or product-by-product migration timetable.
For Sage Intacct Construction users in particular, the present connection is API-based. Sage’s mention of opportunities to deepen that integration over time signals possible future work, not a currently announced replacement, migration, or new feature set. Customers planning a deployment or renewal should ask Sage or their implementation partner to confirm the supported configuration and any changes that affect their environment.
How large is Paperless?
Sage’s announcement gives two different customer counts: its main text says Paperless serves more than 1,400 customers across the United States, Canada, and Australia, while the company description says it has over 2,000 customers across the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Sage does not reconcile the figures, so neither should be treated as a definitive current total.

The acquisition alone does not establish that one workflow product is better suited to every contractor. When assessing Paperless or another construction AP and compliance platform, compare the actual workflow and deployment against your business requirements:
Best Value
- ERP compatibility: Confirm the exact ERP product and edition, cloud or on-premises deployment, integration method, and which invoice, vendor, job, and cost-code fields synchronize.
- Approval and audit controls: Test approval rules, separation of duties, change history, exception handling, and evidence retention with real examples from your process.
- Subcontractor compliance: Ask which documents can be tracked, how missing or expiring documents are surfaced, and whether compliance status affects payment workflows.
- Field usability: Verify that jobsite staff can submit receipts, images, and forms with the permissions and connectivity they actually have.
- Deployment and migration: Establish implementation scope, data-migration responsibilities, training, support, and eligibility for any cloud or on-premises transition.
- Total cost and outcomes: Compare licensing and implementation costs with your own baseline for invoice-cycle time, manual entry, exception rates, and document retrieval.
Sage’s product overview includes a customer testimonial from Bruce Evenrud, CFO of A.M. Ortega Construction Inc., who reported reducing a billing cycle from 15 to 20 days to two days and increasing cash flow by more than $4 million per month. This is one customer’s reported experience in Sage-published material, not a typical result or an independently audited benchmark.

The acquisition gives Sage ownership of a specialist whose tools already connect with several Sage construction products and are positioned around invoice, document, and compliance workflows. It creates the possibility of closer coordination between construction finance and project operations, but the announcement does not establish what future product integration will look like or when it may arrive.
Sage’s announcement also cites a statistic from the Sage and Associated General Contractors of America 2026 Construction Hiring and Business Outlook: 61% of US construction firms were using AI or planning to increase investment during 2026, compared with 44% in 2025. Those figures are as reported in the named report and cited by Sage; they are not independent verification of Paperless’s capabilities or of the acquisition’s expected results.
