Java full-stack interviews do not follow one confirmed standard format. Candidate accounts describe different combinations of assessments, technical and coding rounds, project discussions, and managerial or HR conversations. Rather than treat any one account as a template, use them to prepare for the skills that connect a frontend, Java services, and data—and be ready to explain what you personally built.
What can a Java full-stack interview include?
The available accounts are individual reports, not official hiring guidance or a representative survey. They show how much the process can vary:
| Reported account | Format and discussion topics |
|---|---|
| Pandava Tirumala Rao | An initial assessment followed by a technical interview. Topics included Java and Spring Boot, Angular integration, Hibernate and the N+1 problem, AWS and Docker, Git, SQL and pagination, production support, API performance, and diagnosing a slow production service. The candidate also asked about first-month responsibilities and the team’s use of AI. Candidate’s post |
| Sainath Bembre | Discussion of legacy modernization, React-to-API integration, frontend architecture and state, Spring Boot modules, Java 17 records, design patterns, SQL, and coding. One reported exercise counted consecutive character runs, followed by complexity discussion. Candidate’s post |
| Reproduced interview account | Four stages were described: coding exercises, a technical round, a sample travel-booking project, and a managerial discussion. Topics included Java, Spring, web fundamentals, React, database work, and explaining frontend/backend flow. The account surfaced through another profile result, so its original context is less clear. Account reference |
| Deeksha Sharma, Delhivery | An HR screen and two technical rounds, covering data structures and algorithms, architecture, Java, Kafka, Elasticsearch, databases, Spring/Hibernate, low-level design, and database design. Candidate’s post |
| Yash Shah, EY L1 | A reported first-level interview with questions about microservices, Spring Security, concurrency, SQL, and production scenarios. This is one candidate’s account, not EY-wide guidance. Candidate’s post |

How should you prepare your project walkthrough?
Choose one real project and prepare a concise explanation that follows a user need through the system. Keep your personal contribution distinct from what the wider team delivered.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Context: Who needed the feature or system, and what problem did it address?
- Architecture: Which frontend, backend services, APIs, and data stores were involved?
- Your contribution: What code, design, testing, or operational work did you personally own?
- Data flow: Trace a user action from the interface through the API and service to persistence, then back through the response and UI update.
- Trade-offs: Explain an important choice, such as how to structure a module or query, and what alternatives you considered.
- Evidence of quality: Describe relevant tests, deployment, monitoring, or performance work without overstating your role.
- Challenge: Give one specific problem, how you investigated it, and what changed as a result.
Which technical areas deserve review?
Core Java and object design
Review object-oriented concepts, object creation, string equality, collections, language-version features, design patterns, and concurrency at the depth the role requires. Connect definitions to a decision you made in code. The candidate reports mention these subjects, but do not establish a fixed question list.
Spring, Spring Boot, and API behavior
Be prepared to explain how a request reaches a controller or endpoint, how services and dependencies are organized, and how the API handles validation, errors, and responses. If asked, “What is the difference between Spring and Spring Boot?”, answer in terms of the framework and the conventions or conveniences used to build and run an application—not as a memorized slogan.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Frontend-to-backend integration
Practice describing an end-to-end feature: a user event, the frontend’s API call, request and response data, backend processing, persistence, error handling, and the resulting UI state. The accounts include both Angular and React. Prepare for the framework named in the job description and be ready to discuss why a project used its particular approach to state and component structure.
Persistence, SQL, and performance
Review joins, indexes, pagination, transactions, database design, and ORM behavior. Be able to explain how a query’s shape and the data being requested affect the approach. One account specifically mentions Hibernate’s N+1 problem: understand how repeated related-entity queries can arise and how you would confirm and address the issue in the context of a real application. Do not assume a single fix is right for every query or workload.

Coding and design
Reported exercises range from data-structure problems to practical string processing. Practise reasoning aloud rather than betting on an exact question bank. For a task such as counting consecutive character runs, clarify the expected output and edge cases, describe the algorithm, then discuss time and space complexity. For design questions, explain how requirements, data shape, scale, and operational needs influence your choices.
Production and distributed systems
For an experienced role, prepare to discuss only technologies you can speak about honestly. Reports mention production debugging, API performance, cloud and containers, Kafka, Elasticsearch, microservices, Spring Security, and concurrency; these are possible topics, not a universal checklist. When comparing a monolith with microservices, frame the choice around system boundaries, deployment needs, and the operational cost of distributed components rather than claiming one architecture is always superior.

How would you debug an API that is fast locally but slow in production?
This question appears in the reported themes as a troubleshooting scenario. A useful answer is a disciplined investigation, not an immediate guess:
- Define the symptom: Ask which endpoint, users, time window, and latency measure are affected; distinguish a broad slowdown from one slow request.
- Compare evidence: Check production telemetry, logs, traces, and recent changes against a healthy period or environment. Local performance alone does not reproduce production data, traffic, configuration, or dependencies.
- Follow the request: Identify whether time is spent in the application, database, network, or a downstream service. Inspect query counts and timing if persistence is implicated.
- Narrow and mitigate: Form a testable hypothesis, reduce user impact where possible, and avoid changing several variables at once.
- Verify the fix: Recheck the same latency and error signals, confirm the intended behavior, and watch for regressions.
Use a real example if you have one. If you do not, state that clearly and walk through how you would gather evidence rather than inventing a production incident.

What should you ask the interviewers?
Questions about first-month expectations, the team’s development workflow, code review, deployment, and how success is evaluated can clarify the work behind the job title. Rao’s account specifically says he asked about responsibilities in the first month and the team’s use of AI; those were his questions, not a standard interview requirement.
What do the reports establish—and what do they not?
They establish that individual candidates have described a range of stages and subjects, from coding and project explanation to framework, database, and production discussions. They do not establish how often a particular round or question appears, pass rates, or a universal Java full-stack rubric. Use the examples to guide preparation, then prioritize the technologies and responsibilities in the role you are pursuing.
