The Audient iD4 has no dedicated power-off button. It draws power over USB, so disconnect its USB cable or turn off the computer or powered hub supplying it. The speaker-mute and 48 V controls do different jobs: they silence monitor output or disable phantom power, but leave the interface powered.

How to power down the iD4

  1. Stop playback or recording. If you monitor through connected speakers, mute or turn them down first to avoid an abrupt change in sound. This is a sensible precaution, not a shutdown requirement specified by Audient.
  2. Remove USB power. Disconnect the cable between the iD4 and its host computer, or shut down the computer supplying power. With a powered USB hub, switch off the port or hub if it has a physical control; otherwise, disconnect the iD4.
  3. Check the USB status LED. Audient identifies the green USB LED as the indication that the connected iD4 is powered on. It should go out when the unit is no longer receiving power.

For lightning storms or long periods when the equipment will not be used, Audient’s manual says: “Switch off your computer and unplug this equipment during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.” Audient iD4 downloads and documentation.

Choose the control for the job

Your goal What to do What happens
Remove power from the interface Disconnect USB, or switch off the host or powered hub supplying it. The interface powers down; its green USB status LED goes out.
Silence connected speakers Press the speaker-mute control. Monitor output is muted, but the iD4 remains powered.
Stop phantom power to a microphone Switch off the rear-panel 48 V control. Phantom power is disabled; the interface remains powered.

Audient lists USB bus power separately from phantom power: the published specifications give a 500 mA at 5 V system limit and a maximum of 420 mA at 5 V without 48 V phantom power. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Audient iD4 MKII technical specifications.

Can you leave an iD4 on all the time?

Audient’s reviewed documentation does not establish whether continuous operation is safe or unsafe, or recommend leaving the interface powered 24/7. Because the iD4 receives power from USB, it remains on while a powered host or hub supplies power. If you want it off, remove that power; for extended non-use, follow the manual’s instruction to switch off the computer and unplug the equipment.

Using the iD4 with an iPad or iPhone

Audient’s iOS setup guidance says the iD4 needs a powered USB hub and a camera adapter cable because an iPad or iPhone cannot power the interface directly. The hub is part of the stated iOS setup, not a required shutdown accessory: turn off its port or power control if available, or unplug the iD4’s USB cable to stop it receiving power. If the iD4 disconnects unexpectedly on Windows

A dropout after inactivity or after waking the computer from sleep is not the same as a normal power-off. Audient says rare cases are usually related to Windows USB power-management settings. To try its recommended fix:

  1. Open Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  2. For USB controllers that have a Power Management tab, open the tab and clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  3. Under Human Interface Devices, find the USB Input Device associated with the iD4 and check its Power Management setting as well; clear the same option if present.
  4. If the dropout continues, try another USB port and cable, then contact Audient Support.

These adjustments address an unexpected host-managed disconnection; they do not add an on/off switch to the interface. For model-specific documentation, check Audient’s iD4 downloads page and confirm whether your unit is an original iD4 or an iD4 MKII before buying a replacement cable.
