Public disclosures do not identify the attacker or ransomware, or confirm whether data was stolen or a ransom paid.
What happened to Evolution Mining?
Evolution Mining, a gold producer operating six mines in Australia and Canada, said in an ASX announcement dated 12 August 2024 that it became aware of a ransomware incident affecting its IT systems on 8 August. The company reported the attack to the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
The dates describe different events: 8 August was when Evolution became aware of the attack; 12 August was the date of its public announcement. The announcement said, “Based on work to date, the Company believes the incident is now contained.” Its FY2024 annual report states that the incident was contained by 12 August.
Did the attack stop gold production?
Evolution said it did not anticipate a material impact on operations. Its FY2024 annual report says the company executed its Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs), managed operations safely and experienced no material impact to production.

That is a statement about the reported operational and production effect, not proof that IT systems were unaffected. Evolution’s FY2025 annual report says the attack affected IT systems and took several days to contain. The company’s emphasis on safety and continuity matters because IT and operating-technology systems support mining operations, but the public disclosures do not identify particular sites or describe specific system outages.
Who attacked Evolution Mining, and was data stolen?
The public disclosures do not name the ransomware family or attacker, confirm that data was exfiltrated, or state whether Evolution paid an extortion demand. They also do not identify the affected mine sites. The company’s statement that the incident was contained describes its response status; it does not establish whether information was accessed or copied.

Contemporary reporting also noted that those details had not been disclosed. Without a later, substantiated disclosure, naming a criminal group or claiming data theft or a ransom payment would be speculation.
