TextFree, Pinger’s messaging app, does not support end-to-end encryption for text messages. Pinger says it encrypts messages on the part of their journey to its own servers, but it cannot confirm encryption after an external provider takes over routing. That is different from end-to-end encryption, which is designed so the service provider cannot read message contents during ordinary delivery.
This answer applies to Pinger, Inc.’s TextFree service—not every app associated with the Pinger name, and not the unrelated “Pinger: Private Messenger” app.
What does Pinger say is encrypted?
Pinger’s TextFree support article states: “TextFree does not support end-to-end encryption of text messages, however, our servers are encrypted.” It describes messages as protected from the time a user sends them until they reach Pinger’s servers. Pinger calls this “on-net messaging” and says it controls that encryption.
After that point, Pinger says messages are sent through a service provider that routes incoming and outgoing messages. The company calls this “off-net messaging,” says it is outside its control, and says it cannot confirm whether that segment is encrypted. Its documentation does not identify the encryption protocol, explain key management, or establish that every transmission is encrypted.

Why that is not end-to-end encryption
Encryption on a service-controlled connection and end-to-end encryption make different promises. In an end-to-end encrypted conversation, the provider is not supposed to be able to read message content in the ordinary course of delivery. Pinger explicitly says TextFree does not provide that protection for text messages.
Accordingly, “our servers are encrypted” should not be read as a promise that only the sender and recipient can access a message. Pinger’s privacy disclosures also describe collecting and retaining message content, and say authorized Pinger personnel and bound contractors or agents may access customer information as needed.

Why does Google Play say “Data isn’t encrypted”?
The TextFree listing on Google Play displays the data-safety label “Data isn’t encrypted.” That is broader-sounding language than Pinger’s support page, which says its own server segment is encrypted.
The available statements do not explain which data categories, transfer stages, or conditions the store label covers, so they cannot be reconciled technically from the published information cited here. Google Play also notes that developer-provided privacy and security information may vary by use, region, and age. Treat TextFree as lacking end-to-end encryption; if the exact scope of the store label matters to you, ask Pinger directly.

What does Pinger disclose about stored information?
Pinger’s privacy policy describes physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards, and says collected customer information is stored securely with access available to authorized personnel and bound contractors or agents. These are general security and access-control disclosures, not an end-to-end encryption claim.
Pinger’s California privacy notice also says the company maintains data servers for core app data management and uses backend providers for communications transmission, including carrier, data-backhaul, and hosting functions. It describes disclosures to service providers and advertising companies. Its stated retention periods include:

No published material cited here says TextFree Plus adds end-to-end encryption or changes the message-routing limitation. Pinger describes Plus as an ad-free feature, not a security upgrade. A subscription should not be treated as a way to make TextFree conversations end-to-end encrypted.

What to use for sensitive conversations
If a conversation requires end-to-end encryption, choose a messaging service that expressly documents that protection for the specific conversation and participants. When comparing services, check whether encryption is on by default or optional, and whether it covers group chats, calls, attachments, and backups. Also review what the provider says it can access or retain. This guidance reflects TextFree’s published limitation; it is not a comparison or test of other apps.
