Fortnite Sidekicks are customizable companions that join you in supported experiences and react to the world. They are cosmetics—not combat helpers: they do not detect enemies or items. Before choosing one, know that its physical appearance choices are permanent, and shop stock changes over time.
What are Fortnite Sidekicks?
Epic Games introduced Sidekicks as customizable companions. They can appear in Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and more. In Epic’s October 30, 2025 announcement, the company described them as “your own customizable companion.”
Sidekicks react to the world, but they do not detect enemies or items. Their role is cosmetic and companion-focused, rather than providing a gameplay advantage.
Where can you see and use a Sidekick?
Being supported across Fortnite experiences does not mean a Sidekick is visible to every player in every mode. In Battle Royale, players see only Sidekicks belonging to their team. Visibility in other experiences varies. Epic’s published material does not provide a definitive compatibility list for every island or mode, so check the specific experience for its behavior.

How Sidekick customization works
Sidekicks have changeable details and physical traits that require care. Epic says the physical traits you select determine the Sidekick’s future appearance, and those choices are permanent. Its name and accessories, by contrast, can be changed at any time. Review the appearance options before confirming a choice.
Customization options depend on the individual Sidekick. For creator-made Sidekick NPCs, Epic describes four to eight preset channels, with the available channels varying by Sidekick.

How to get a Sidekick
Sidekicks have had several acquisition routes, including Battle Pass unlocks, Item Shop purchases, quests, and an ownership grant. The route and conditions depend on the specific Sidekick.
- Battle Pass: Epic’s October 2025 launch announcement said Peels would be unlocked through the next Battle Pass. This is a launch-era detail, not a current catalog or promise of availability.
- Item Shop: Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor were announced for the Shop at launch. Shop rotations change, so check Fortnite’s in-game Item Shop for current availability.
- Existing ownership grant: Epic said owners of the Bonesy Back Bling would be granted the Bonesy Sidekick.
- Quests: Official listings describe quests for Kit and Empress; the details are specific to those items and may change.
In the official listing snapshots reviewed, Stone Gryphon, Kit, and Empress were each listed at 1,200 V-Bucks. That is not a universal Sidekick price. The Stone Gryphon listing showed a purchase cutoff of October 3, 2026 at 12:00 AM GMT+00:00, and The Best Cat listing showed October 5, 2026 at 12:00 AM GMT+00:00; these dated snapshots do not establish availability after those cutoffs. Sidekicks for Fortnite creators
In its June 5, 2026 creator announcement, Epic said Sidekicks can be used as scriptable NPCs in UEFN. Creators can customize them through preset channels, but cannot build a new Sidekick from scratch. Epic summarizes the range this way: “You can’t build a new Sidekick from scratch, but the variant range is wide enough to give every creature in your island a unique appearance and personality.”
Epic says all Fortnite Sidekicks are available in the NPC Spawner, with an exception: licensed Sidekicks cannot be used as NPCs. Cosmetic Sync can make a Sidekick NPC match a joining player’s equipped Sidekick, including a licensed appearance. That sync option does not remove the restriction on using licensed Sidekicks as NPCs.
