Remote layouts and troubleshooting steps vary by model and region, so use the manual for your exact AC before trying pairing procedures or ordering a replacement.
Start with the remote’s batteries and signal path
Replace or check the batteries
Fit fresh batteries, or recharge them if your remote uses rechargeable cells, and check that they are installed with the correct polarity. Samsung’s Philippines guide specifies two 1.5 V AAA batteries for the remotes it covers, but that is not a universal specification; check your remote’s manual or battery compartment before buying cells. A low-battery icon may appear on supported remotes. Replacing batteries can also reset remote modes, so check the displayed settings afterward. Point the remote at the indoor unit
Clear objects from between the remote and the indoor unit’s receiver, then aim the handset at the unit while pressing a button. Samsung’s Philippines guide recommends a distance of up to 10 m for the remotes it covers; the usable range can differ by model. Samsung Philippines remote-control guide
Look for light interference
Bright fluorescent or neon lighting near the indoor-unit receiver can interfere with remote operation, according to Samsung Australia. If the remote works inconsistently, try it from another position or with the nearby light switched off. Samsung Australia troubleshooting FAQ

Check whether the air conditioner or a setting is the problem
Confirm the indoor unit has power
Check that the indoor unit is receiving power and that its breaker or RCD has not tripped. If power has been interrupted, restore it only if it is safe to do so. A remote that appears dead may not be the cause when the AC itself has no power.
Check Timed Off and Sleep
Look at the remote display and AC settings for Timed Off or Sleep. An active timer or sleep setting can make the unit stop or behave differently than expected. Samsung includes these checks in its troubleshooting guidance. Samsung Australia troubleshooting FAQ

Consider the active mode and supported functions
A button can appear ineffective because the selected mode does not support that adjustment. In Samsung’s Philippines guide, Fan mode has no temperature control. The guide lists temperature ranges of 16–30°C for Auto, Cool, and Heat, and 18–30°C for Dry, for the models it covers; Samsung warns that temperature limits can vary by country. Try model-specific pairing or a safe power cycle
Re-pair only if your model supports it
Samsung advises trying to re-pair the remote if the model supports pairing. There is no single pairing sequence established for all Samsung air conditioners. Check the manual for your AC and remote before attempting a button combination or reset.

Power-cycle the AC only when safe
If the air conditioner itself is unresponsive, Samsung’s Russia troubleshooting guide recommends disconnecting power for 1–2 minutes, while Samsung Australia suggests switching the AC off and on as a soft reset. Follow the procedure only if it is safe and consistent with your unit’s manual; do not open the unit or treat a power cycle as a fix for electrical damage. Test the remote’s infrared emitter
Inspect the handset for visible impact damage. To check whether it appears to emit infrared, point its LED toward a phone or digital camera and press a button. Samsung Russia describes this as a troubleshooting clue: a visible flash suggests the remote is emitting, but it does not prove the indoor unit’s receiver works or that the command is compatible with the AC. Some cameras may not show the infrared signal.

- Visible flash, but no AC response: The handset is emitting, but the receiver, AC power, signal path, or command compatibility may still be at fault. Arrange service if the basic checks do not resolve it.
Samsung Russia remote troubleshooting guide
Use error-code diagnostics only for eligible models
Samsung’s information-code procedure applies to specified post-2020 AR9500T models with 2-way communication; it is not a general diagnostic method for every Samsung AC. If your model is eligible, refer any information codes to Samsung Service rather than using an unverified key combination. If the remote appears damaged or fails the emitter check, match a replacement to the exact air-conditioner model and region. Compare compatibility, button layout, and support for the functions you use; Samsung notes that remote features vary and directs owners to the manual. Its support material does not establish one universal replacement remote SKU. Buy from Samsung or a reputable compatible-parts seller, and verify the model match before ordering.
