To revoke an app’s Full Disk Access, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, then turn off the switch next to the app. On macOS 12 or earlier, use System Preferences instead.
Turn off Full Disk Access in macOS 13 or later
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Open Full Disk Access.
- Turn off the switch beside the app you want to restrict.
Apple’s macOS 27 user guide describes Full Disk Access as allowing an app to access files from other apps, Time Machine backups, and certain administrative settings for all users on the Mac: Control access to files and folders on Mac.
Use the older path on macOS 12 or earlier
On these versions, open Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, then select Full Disk Access and disable the app. Apple distinguishes this older System Preferences path from the System Settings path used in macOS 13 or later: Control access to files in macOS.
What revoking this permission changes
Full Disk Access is a broad permission: apps that need access to the full storage device must be explicitly added to its list. Turning off an app’s switch removes its Full Disk Access authorization; Apple presents macOS privacy permissions as settings you can change after the initial decision.

Files & Folders is separate. That category controls access to specific locations. Changing Full Disk Access does not necessarily revoke permissions the app has through other privacy categories. Review those settings separately if you also want to restrict access to particular folders: Apple’s Files & Folders guidance.
If you are unsure whether the change took effect
Check that the app’s switch is off in the Full Disk Access list. Apple’s published guidance does not specify whether an app must be quit or restarted after revocation, so it does not establish a universal restart requirement.
