If you opt out while still running a beta build and accept the offered downgrade, expect a factory reset and back up first.

These steps are for supported Google Pixel devices enrolled in Android Beta for Pixel. They are not a universal Android procedure: Samsung and other manufacturers run their own beta programs and may use different exit and recovery steps. Check the phone maker’s current instructions for a non-Pixel device. Google’s current Android 17 QPR 2 beta documentation describes the Pixel program.
Choose the exit route that matches your current build

Google’s Android 17 QPR 2 guidance says the wipe-free opportunity lasts only until the next beta update is applied. Google’s Android 17 OTA instructions say users can return to the latest public build, but a return from beta can involve a reset.
Back up before changing builds
Before accepting a downgrade, make a current backup of important data and check that it completed. A factory reset removes local user data. Google recommends backing up, but a backup may not restore every app’s data or settings. Copy especially important personal files separately if needed; a file copy is not a complete device backup.

Opt out through Google’s Android Beta portal
- Sign in to the Android Beta portal with the Google account enrolled on the Pixel.
- Find the enrolled device and choose the portal’s opt-out option.
- Read the update offered to the phone before installing it. If it is a downgrade from beta to the public build, proceed only after your backup is ready and you accept that the phone may be reset.
- Install the offered update and complete any on-device setup that follows. If the matching stable public build was already installed when you opted out, do not apply another beta update during the limited wipe-free window.
Portal labels and update availability can change. If the enrolled Pixel does not appear, verify that the portal is signed in to the same Google account used for the beta enrollment, then check Google’s current program guidance.

Manual installation is an advanced alternative, not the first step for an ordinary opt-out. Google’s Android Flash Tool supports specified Pixel devices and requires enabling USB debugging and unlocking the device. Google’s factory-image instructions warn that returning from beta to production requires a full reset. Use the instructions for the exact Pixel model and current build, and do not treat flashing as a way to preserve local data. See Google’s Pixel factory-image instructions and the Android Flash Tool.
