To find a sound you can use in a Snap, open the Sounds picker and search or browse its library. To identify an unknown song playing nearby or in another app, use Shazam; Snapchat’s Shazam-powered Scan feature was announced in 2019, but current Snapchat help does not confirm that it remains available.
Choose the right way to find a song

Snap announced a Shazam integration in Snapchat Scan in 2019, but the current help pages cited here do not establish whether that option is still present in the app. Treat it as a historical feature, not a dependable current shortcut.
Search Snapchat’s Sounds library
- While preparing a Snap, tap the Sounds icon.
- Browse For You, Saved, Recents, Trending or My Sounds, or search by artist or sound.
- Tap a result to preview it, then select it to attach it to the Snap.
- Use the trim control to choose where the audio starts. Tap the bookmark to save a sound for later, then tap Done to apply your selection.
Snapchat says its Sounds tool can add music or a recorded sound to a Snap. Button names and layout can change as the app is updated. See Snapchat’s instructions for adding music to a Snap.

From a Snap
If a Snap shows a Sound pill, tap it to open the sound route. From there, Snapchat describes making a new Snap with that sound.

From Spotlight
On a Spotlight Snap, tap the sound label at the bottom. The Sound Topic page may offer Use Sound and Save. These options depend on being able to access the post and its sound page. Snapchat Support explains how to use sounds from Snaps and Spotlight.
When a Context Card appears
Some trending-sound Context Cards show a music icon and sound name; tapping the label can reveal more posts using that sound. Snapchat says Context Cards are rolling out gradually and are available only in some countries, so this is not a control every viewer will see. About Context Cards on Snapchat.

Identify a song that is playing
Snapchat’s Scan feature is not confirmed as current
In an April 4, 2019 announcement, Snap described Scan as “Snap’s camera search experience” and said users could press and hold on the camera screen to scan their surroundings, including listening to music through a Shazam integration. That announcement documents what Snap introduced at the time; current Snapchat help material does not confirm that the music-recognition control remains available. If you see a Scan or music-identification option in your version of Snapchat, you can try it, but do not rely on the press-and-hold gesture being present. Snap Inc.’s 2019 announcement.
Use Shazam as the practical alternative
Apple’s Shazam guidance covers identifying music playing nearby or in another app on iPhone, iPad and Android. On iPhone or iPad, you can also add Music Recognition to Control Center and use it there. Shazam displays a result notification that opens the track in Shazam; Apple says results are saved in the Shazam app under the described setup. Create a custom sound instead of identifying a song
Snapchat’s Create Sound workflow records audio for use as a user-created sound. It does not look up the name or artist of existing commercial music.
