Microsoft has not named one person to replace Ryan Roslansky across his combined Microsoft 365 remit, and its October 1, 2026 announcement does not promise immediate changes to Office, Teams, Copilot, pricing, or release schedules. It does restate a strategic aim: bringing Office and Copilot together more closely. That direction predates Roslansky’s planned exit, so the leadership change creates uncertainty about execution—not evidence that Microsoft is changing course.

What Microsoft announced

Microsoft’s October 1, 2026 update identifies Roslansky as executive vice president of LinkedIn and Microsoft 365. CEO Satya Nadella said Roslansky had decided to leave after nearly 18 years at LinkedIn and Microsoft. Roslansky will remain through the end of calendar year 2026 as an adviser to Nadella and to support the transition. Microsoft’s announcement is the controlling source for the departure and the reporting changes.

Roslansky said the decision was personal: he believed leading the next phase of the work well would require being in Redmond full time, while his family’s life is in the Bay Area. The announcement does not describe a dispute or give another reason for his departure.

The named reporting changes

Effective October 1, Sumit Chauhan and Lan Ye report to Charles Lamanna, while Jon Friedman reports to Jacob Andreou. Dan Shapero continues as LinkedIn CEO and Mohak Shroff continues in his role; both report to Nadella. These are specific reporting assignments, not an announcement that any one of those leaders has inherited Roslansky’s entire Microsoft 365 portfolio.

Who will take over Microsoft 365?

Microsoft has not announced a single direct successor to Roslansky’s combined M365 remit. It has identified leaders and changed reporting lines, but the October update does not say that one executive now owns all of Microsoft 365, Office, and Teams. It is more accurate to describe a distributed leadership transition than to name a replacement the company has not designated.

The organizational context helps explain why Copilot remains central. In March 2026, Microsoft described a unified Copilot leadership effort involving Roslansky, Perry Clarke, and Charles Lamanna across M365 apps and the Copilot platform. That March update shows Copilot was already a core organizational priority before Roslansky’s exit. Separately, Microsoft’s March 12 leadership announcement placed Roslansky among four executive vice presidents reporting directly to Nadella during a broader reorganization following Rajesh Jha’s retirement transition. The October announcement, rather than that earlier structure, sets out the current changes.

Does the move signal a change in Office and Copilot strategy?

Microsoft’s stated direction is continued integration. In October, Nadella described a vision of Copilot as a “new OS for work,” with “Office fully embedded in Copilot and vice versa.” Read alongside the March effort to bring Copilot experience, platform, M365 apps, and models into a unified organization, this supports the inference that Microsoft intends to connect Copilot and Microsoft 365 apps more closely.

That is strategic framing, not a release plan. The October announcement does not specify features, a delivery schedule, or a commitment that any particular Office or Copilot capability will arrive. Roslansky’s departure changes leadership continuity during the integration effort; on its own, it does not establish that the effort will stop, accelerate, or change direction.

Will Office or Teams change for customers?

The announcement does not report a customer-facing change to Teams or Office features, Copilot availability, licensing, pricing, or release timing as a consequence of Roslansky’s departure. Customers therefore should not read the executive move as evidence that a product change is imminent. It also cannot establish that products will remain unchanged indefinitely; it simply does not announce changes in these areas.

TechRadar Pro characterized the product future as uncertain and interpreted the announcements as pointing toward a more AI-centric approach. That is the outlet’s analysis, not a Microsoft-confirmed product roadmap. TechRadar Pro’s October 2 report offers that perspective, while Microsoft’s own statements support the narrower conclusion that Copilot and Office integration remains an expressed strategic goal.
