Samsung’s firmware records list Android 16 updates for four Galaxy S21 FE 5G variants with the August 5, 2026 security patch. The updates appeared on different dates in September, and the build depends on your exact model. Samsung describes the changes as security improvements, not a new feature release.
Galaxy S21 FE August 2026 update: builds by model
Check your phone’s model number before comparing its software with another S21 FE. Samsung lists these Android 16 firmware records:
| Model | Build | Samsung release date | Android version | Security patch level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SM-G990B | G990BXXSLIZH2 | September 17, 2026 | Android 16 | August 5, 2026 |
| SM-G990B2 | G990B2XXSKIZH2 | September 29, 2026 | Android 16 | August 5, 2026 |
| SM-G990E | G990EXXSOHZH4 | September 21, 2026 | Android 16 | August 5, 2026 |
| SM-G990U | G990USQSOIZH2 | September 22, 2026 | Android 16 | August 5, 2026 |
These are variant-specific entries, not a single global release date. See Samsung’s notices for SM-G990B, SM-G990B2, SM-G990E, and SM-G990U.
What the August patch changes
Samsung’s device notices summarize the update as security improvements. They do not list new S21 FE features or report measured changes to performance or battery life, so there is no basis in these notices to promise either.

Samsung’s August 2026 Security Maintenance Release page provides package-level vulnerability context, including Android Security Bulletin CVEs. That list should not be read as confirmation that every listed CVE maps to a particular S21 FE build.
Why your S21 FE may have a different date or build
Samsung states: “The exact changes may differ depending on your device model, country, and service provider.” A Verizon support record lists September 22, 2026, for its Galaxy S21 FE 5G update and identifies the security patch level as August 2026. That corroborates Verizon’s carrier-specific entry; it does not establish a schedule for every U.S. carrier or unlocked phone. Samsung’s firmware release date also does not mean every eligible handset received an over-the-air prompt that day.

To compare your update with these records, match the model number first, then account for your carrier or region. A different build or later notification is not, by itself, evidence that the phone has the wrong update.
How to check your model and software
- Open Settings and select About phone to find the model number.
- Return to Settings, then open Software update and select Download and install to check for an available update.
- After installation, check the software information in Settings to compare the build and security patch level with the entry for your model.
Does the S21 FE’s upgrade policy guarantee more updates?
Samsung’s 2022 policy announcement included the Galaxy S21 FE among select devices eligible for up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades. That is upgrade-policy context, not a promise of a particular security-patch frequency or delivery date. The September 2026 records above establish the listed updates for the named variants; they do not set a schedule for future patches.
