LG said the Copilot tile reported on some of its smart TVs was a shortcut to Microsoft’s website—not a native Copilot app built into the TV. After owners reported that they could not remove it, LG said it would take steps to let users delete the shortcut. The December 2025 reports gave no timeline, and the sources available as of September 30, 2026 do not confirm whether a removal option has since shipped or which TVs would support it.
Why did a Copilot icon appear on some LG TVs?
In December 2025, owners of some LG TVs said a Copilot tile had appeared on their home screens after a recent webOS update, with no apparent way to remove it. Early accounts described it as an app. LG later clarified that selecting the tile opened Microsoft’s Copilot website in the TV’s built-in browser; it was not an application-based service embedded in the TV, according to Tom’s Hardware.
The reports did not establish a complete list of affected models, webOS versions, or regions. LG had previously promoted Copilot as part of its AI TV plans, but that announcement concerned a different feature: AI Search on the 2025 OLED evo line. LG said AI Search used a large language model to understand conversational context and that Copilot could help users find and organize complex information. The release listed initial availability in the United States, United Kingdom, and South Korea. That product positioning does not establish that the later home-screen tile was the same implementation; see LG’s CES 2025 announcement.
Can you remove the Copilot icon?
LG said it would take steps to let users delete the shortcut. Chris De Maria, Director of Public Relations at LG Electronics North America, told Tom’s Hardware: “LG Electronics respects consumer choice and will take steps to allow users to delete the shortcut icon if they wish.” Tom’s Hardware and Engadget reported in December 2025 that LG had not provided a timeline.

That promise is not confirmation that a delete control is available now. The cited reports do not verify a rollout by September 30, 2026, or specify eligible models, webOS versions, or regions. If you are checking a particular TV, consult current LG support information for its exact model, installed webOS version, and region rather than assuming the control is available across LG TVs.
Is Copilot installed on the TV, and can it use the microphone?
LG’s clarification was that the tile is a shortcut that opens Copilot’s website in the TV browser, not a native Copilot app embedded in the television. LG also said microphone input features activate only after the user grants consent through the browser interface, as reported by Tom’s Hardware. This describes LG’s explanation of the shortcut; it is not independent verification of every browser, model, or regional configuration.

In a statement dated September 12, 2026, LG said speech-to-text begins after a user activates voice interaction through a supported wake-word feature or presses the voice or AI button. LG says wake-word processing is local and voice recognition can be managed or disabled in TV settings. The company also said optional voice recognition, Automatic Content Recognition, and interest-based advertising are not enabled by default. What LG’s response does—and does not—settle
- What it establishes: LG characterized the reported Copilot tile as a browser shortcut to Microsoft’s website rather than an embedded TV app, and said it would take steps to enable deletion.
- What remains unknown: The available coverage does not confirm whether deletion shipped by September 30, 2026, which devices would receive it, or whether availability varies by model, webOS version, or region.
- What the privacy statements cover: LG’s general account of voice controls and its December 2025 explanation of browser consent are not a detailed, independently verified assessment of every device’s Copilot or browser behavior.
