Sony’s current Japan Sony Store application requires applicants to have at least 60 cumulative hours of PS5 and/or PS4 game play on the Sony account they use to apply. Those hours had to be recorded between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026 at 23:59, so the qualifying window is already closed. Meeting the rule does not guarantee a console: Sony will use a lottery if eligible applications outnumber planned units.
Who qualifies for Sony’s Japan PS5 Pro application?
The 60-hour threshold is only one part of Sony’s eligibility rules. According to Sony’s current purchase application terms, applicants must satisfy all of the following:

PlayStation 5 Pro with 2TB SSD Storage, Console Only - PS5 Pro Gaming System, White (Renewed) | $1,499.49 | Buy on Amazon |

- Use PlayStation online services with a Sony account registered in Japan.
- Have accumulated at least 60 total hours of game play on PS5, PS4, or both while signed in to that account. The qualifying period ran from September 27, 2024 through September 27, 2026 at 23:59.
- Link that Sony account to a My Sony ID. Sony says My Sony IDs registered from January 19, 2022 onward are already unified with the account.
- Reside in Japan and agree to the application conditions.
- Apply for no more than one unit per account. Sony asks applicants not to apply or purchase for resale.
The 60 hours are cumulative, not a requirement to play on both consoles. But because the cutoff has passed, an applicant who had fewer than 60 qualifying hours by September 27, 2026 at 23:59 cannot add hours now to meet this application’s threshold.

Sony lists October 7, 2026 at 23:59 as the application deadline and says it expects to contact applicants from October 26. It will check eligibility after applications close. If the number of eligible applications exceeds planned stock, Sony says it will allocate purchase opportunities by lottery.

Applicants selected for an opportunity must complete payment online through Sony Store by November 2, 2026 at 11:59. Sony says unused allocations may later be offered in a redraw to eligible applicants who were not selected initially. These are Sony’s announced dates and process; applying is not a promise of an offer or a purchase.
What does the current application offer cost?
The application lists PS5 Pro model CFI-7100B01, with a 2TB SSD and one DualSense wireless controller, for ¥137,980 including tax, according to Sony’s current Japan Store terms. That is distinct from the ¥119,980 including tax Japanese suggested retail price Sony announced on September 10, 2024; the latter was the historical launch price, not the current application listing. Sony’s 2024 launch announcement planned release for November 7, 2024.

Is the 60-hour rule proven to stop scalping?
Sony says PS5 Pro is facing stock shortages in Japan, and its application page sets account and playtime conditions while discouraging resale. Those restrictions may make some opportunistic purchases harder, but the available information does not show how much scalping occurs or whether this particular rule has reduced it. There are no published application totals, lottery odds, resale figures, or outcome data in the cited material. GamesRadar’s September 28, 2026 report frames the measure in anti-scalping terms, but Sony’s terms establish an eligibility screen and conditional lottery—not proof of effectiveness.

What PS5 Pro is included in the application?
The listing is for the CFI-7100B01 console with a 2TB SSD and one DualSense controller. Sony’s Japan product page describes supported games running from 60 fps to up to 120 fps on compatible 4K displays, alongside ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Those capabilities depend on the game and display; they are product claims, not a guarantee that every title runs at those settings. The application concerns Sony Store allocation in Japan; buying a console through another retailer does not itself satisfy or confer eligibility for this application.
