No—the claim that Samsung devices will not get Android’s Instant Hotspot is too broad. Google says Instant Hotspot is available on Samsung S25 and newer devices. For older Samsung phones, Google points users to Samsung’s Auto Hotspot feature instead. The available guidance does not give a complete model-by-model list, so check the exact phone’s settings and support documentation before assuming it is compatible.
Does my Samsung phone support Instant Hotspot?
Google’s current Android Help page says: “The instant hotspot feature is available on Samsung S25 and newer devices.” That establishes support for the S25 generation and newer, but the page does not enumerate every model, software build, country, or carrier. An Android version number alone is not enough to confirm that a particular Samsung phone has the feature.
For a specific phone, check whether it has the relevant Cross-device services settings. Google’s Android instructions are at Set up and use cross-device services.
How Instant Hotspot works on supported Samsung phones
Instant Hotspot is part of Google’s Cross-device services. To use it, the Samsung phone sharing its connection and the device receiving it should be near each other and signed in to the same Google Account. Cross-device services must be enabled on both devices, with Internet sharing and Instant Hotspot turned on in those settings.

What can I use instead on an older Galaxy?
Google directs users with older Samsung devices to Samsung’s Auto Hotspot. Samsung’s support guidance places the controls under Mobile Hotspot settings and describes group-sharing options. Menu paths and available controls can differ by model and software version; see Samsung’s Mobile Hotspot and Auto Hotspot guidance for its instructions.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Auto Hotspot is Samsung’s alternative, not evidence that an older Galaxy supports Google’s Instant Hotspot. Check the phone’s own Mobile Hotspot settings and its model-specific Samsung documentation to see which options are available.
Check settings and troubleshoot a failed connection
- Confirm the device boundary: Google documents Instant Hotspot for Samsung S25 and newer. If your phone is older, look for Samsung Auto Hotspot instead.
- Check both devices’ accounts: Make sure they are signed in to the same Google Account.
- Enable the required services: On both devices, open Cross-device services settings and turn on Cross-device services, Internet sharing, and Instant Hotspot where available.
- Bring the devices close together: Google requires the devices to be near each other for the connection.
- Try the available connection route: Accept the notification on the receiving device or select the sharing device from Internet settings if that option appears.
- For an older Galaxy, check Samsung’s controls: Open Mobile Hotspot settings and look for Auto Hotspot. The wording and location can vary by model and software version.
Why an Android update does not guarantee Instant Hotspot
Google says Android update eligibility and timing depend on the manufacturer and carrier, and not every device is eligible for every Android update. That variability does not establish Instant Hotspot support for an unlisted Samsung model. For older Galaxies, check the feature settings and current Samsung guidance rather than relying on the Android version or expecting a particular update date; see Google’s Android update guidance.
