You can build a DIY gadget that connects to Meta’s Muse using an off-the-shelf ESP32 board or a Raspberry Pi/Linux device and Meta’s open-source device SDKs. The ESP32 route is aimed at projects with screens, audio, buttons, or sensors; the Linux route is for Linux applications and custom commands, including Home Assistant-related tasks. These are maker projects—not required Meta accessories or guaranteed-compatible products.
What a Muse gadget is—and what it isn’t
Meta describes Muse gadgets as open-source devices that people build themselves. The project is presented as a hobbyist effort—“built by hackers, for hackers, just for fun”—rather than a lineup of finished accessories. You choose a supported development route, assemble or adapt hardware, and use an SDK to connect the device to Muse. Meta’s Muse Gadgets page provides project ideas and directs builders to get an SDK token.
This is separate from Meta’s own Muse-enabled products. In its September 24, 2026 Connect announcement, Meta said Muse was expected to come to its AI glasses in the coming months and separately described Muse Charm as a pocket-sized device for talking and interacting with Muse, with more information promised later in 2026. Those announcements do not make either product a DIY kit. Meta’s Connect 2026 announcement covers those products; its AI glasses developer page describes a distinct development ecosystem, including mobile apps, standalone web apps, and Meta AI connectors. That is not the same path as the Muse Gadgets device SDKs.

Meta documents two main routes. Choose based on the kind of project you want to make, rather than assuming one is faster, cheaper, or more reliable: Meta publishes no head-to-head comparison of cost, speed, power use, or reliability.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Meta Quest 3/Quest 3s: Still using BOBOVR’s innovative power swap design, the new battery architecture separates the discharge module from the battery pack, reducing battery pack heat. It also improves the discharge efficiency by 6% compared to the old model, and adds low-battery sound reminders and accurate battery levels;
- Brand new B100 battery system: Compared with B2, while the volume remains unchanged, the capacity is increased from 5200mah to 10000mah, the battery capacity is increased by 92%, and the weight is only increased by 28%. Thanks to the higher output efficiency, the available capacity is B2 2 times;
- S3 Pro has a built-in Head Air Cooling System: which uses silent technology to keep the head and face cool and comfortable even when Quest3/3S is worn for a long time, and supports 100-level flexible wind speed adjustment (Press the roller to open);
- The structure of the back of the head is optimized,Flattened back structure enhances comfort during seated or reclined use, with adjustable height and removable overhead support.
- Tip: S3 Pro Strap is only Compatible with Meta Quest 3/Quest 3s; The air conditioning system requires B100 to work(Not compatible with B2 battery pack) ; Battery Configuration: Two 5000mAh lithium cells in series (7.3V total), – equivalent to a single 10000mAh/3.65V battery pack.
| Build path | Platform and SDK | Best fit for | Example direction from Meta |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESP32 | An off-the-shelf ESP32 board with the ESP32 Device SDK | Projects built around a screen, audio input or output, buttons, or sensors | A touchscreen device with push-to-talk, speaker, microphone, and battery |
| Linux | A Raspberry Pi or other Linux device with the Linux Device SDK | Linux applications, custom commands, sysadmin chores, or Home Assistant-related tasks | Raspberry Pi 5 used for Home Assistant or Linux applications |
The project page supplies examples, not a universal compatibility guarantee. Before buying components, check the relevant project details and SDK documentation for the hardware and peripherals your build needs. Meta does not publish a complete compatibility matrix.
ESP32: for a focused device with peripherals
Use the ESP32 Device SDK when you want a compact microcontroller project involving a display, audio, buttons, or sensors. Meta’s examples include a Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-1.75C device with a round AMOLED touchscreen, push-to-talk, speaker, microphone, and battery; a Seeed reTerminal E1002 with color e-ink; and an M5Stack StickS3 with a small color screen and button. The project list also includes an ideaspark ESP32 board with a 1.9-inch display and an AiPi Lite desktop companion with a button, voice, and color display. These are examples of project directions, not a list of required parts.

Raspberry Pi or Linux: for software and commands
Choose the Linux Device SDK if your idea depends on running Linux applications or adding custom commands. Meta names Raspberry Pi 5 for Home Assistant and Linux applications, and also lists Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition as an example with push-to-talk, a speaker and microphone, and a status LED ring. The project page describes using a spare Raspberry Pi or Linux box for tasks such as sysadmin chores or a Home Assistant setup. It does not establish that every Linux device or Home Assistant configuration will work; verify the specific project’s requirements before building.
How to get started
- Pick the project shape. Decide whether your gadget needs ESP32-style peripherals such as a display, audio, or sensors, or whether it needs a Linux environment for applications and commands.
- Check the project and hardware details. Use the Muse Gadgets page to choose an example, then confirm its board, peripherals, and setup requirements before purchasing or modifying anything.
- Get an SDK token. Meta’s project page instructs builders to obtain a token before connecting a device to Muse.
- Follow the SDK route for your platform. Use the ESP32 Device SDK for an ESP32 board, or the Linux Device SDK for a Raspberry Pi/Linux device. Add the components and behavior required by your chosen project.
- Test cautiously. Follow the relevant board maker’s power and wiring guidance. Meta warns that tinkering can brick a board, void its warranty, or cause brownouts.
What Meta’s examples do—and do not—promise
The named boards and devices on Meta’s page are made and sold by other companies. Meta explicitly says it does not endorse or warrant them. Treat each as an illustration of a possible build, not as a required purchase, official accessory, or guarantee that every configuration will work with Muse.

- Compatible with Meta Quest 3/Quest 3S: Reduce facial pressure, It adopts a suspended design and supports multi-point adjustment, which evenly transfers the original facial pressure of the host to the head. If you want, you can even remove the facial interface to fully enjoy the transparency of MR mode.
- Power supply is more convenient: The battery pack adopts a magnetic quick-release design, and the battery can be detached and charged, which does not affect the use of VR host. Two battery packs are hot-swappable for unlimited battery life (the second battery pack needs to be purchased separately).
- Reducing the weight of the head battery: We designed a dedicated battery pack B2 for the VR host, which weighs only 140g, which can balance the front and rear weights. Compared with the traditional power bank, the burden on the head is significantly reduced.
- Double the battery life: The battery capacity of a single battery pack is 5200mah, adding about 2 hours (APP depends) of VR time.
Meta also lists a TV HDMI-stick idea as “Coming soon.” That label is not a currently documented, ready-to-build hardware route; check the project page for current status rather than planning around it.
For home networking, Meta says Muse Home Link can connect Muse to a home Wi-Fi network so it can reach compatible devices already owned by the user or devices exposing a local HTTP API. The page describes it as free for active Muse subscribers in the United States, one per subscriber, and gives October as the shipping timing. Because availability and timing can change, check the page for current details before relying on it.

Know the risks before connecting or modifying hardware
These projects involve real hardware and are not risk-free. Meta cautions that tinkering could brick a board, void its warranty, or cause brownouts. Check the board manufacturer’s warranty and electrical requirements before modifying or powering a device, and make sure the board and attached peripherals are appropriate for the intended power setup.
Meta says its device SDKs and firmware are open source under the Apache 2.0 license and provided as-is, without warranty. Open source does not mean Meta guarantees a particular board, peripheral combination, or finished project will work.
