There’s no brightness slider in Netflix’s computer-browser player. Raise brightness using your computer’s display controls or your monitor’s physical buttons. If a particular show or movie still looks unusually dark, check your device’s brightness and HDR settings.
Adjust your computer or monitor brightness
Netflix says its brightness setting is not available when watching in a web browser or on a TV display. For computer-browser playback, use the display controls built into your computer or monitor instead. Netflix Help Center: How to adjust brightness
- Keyboard or quick settings: Many laptops have brightness keys, and some computers provide a brightness control in quick settings. The key or menu varies by model.
- Operating-system display settings: Open your computer’s display settings and look for a brightness control. Available controls depend on the computer and connected display.
- Monitor controls: On an external monitor, use its physical buttons or on-screen menu to adjust brightness.
If you cannot find the control, check the instructions from your computer or display maker; the location differs across devices. Netflix also directs browser viewers to their device settings.
If Netflix still looks too dark
Netflix’s guidance for dim shows and movies is to check the device’s brightness or High Dynamic Range (HDR) settings. HDR is a separate display mode from ordinary brightness, and changing it is not a universal fix. The setting’s location and availability vary by device. - First, confirm the computer and monitor brightness are set as intended.
- If the device has HDR settings, check whether HDR is enabled or affecting the picture. Change it only if it is relevant to your display and playback setup; switching HDR off or on will not necessarily brighten every title.
- Netflix HDR controls and playback support are not available in every app and device configuration.
HDR playback requirements on Windows and Mac
These requirements matter only when troubleshooting HDR playback. They are not prerequisites for changing ordinary screen brightness. Netflix’s compatibility guidance can change, so consult its current help page for your setup.
Windows
Netflix’s Windows HDR guidance calls for Windows 11 with current updates, a supported browser or the Netflix app, compatible graphics hardware, and an HDR-capable screen or external display with HDR enabled. Mac
Netflix’s Mac HDR guidance calls for the latest Safari, a compatible Mac with an HDR-capable display, macOS Catalina 10.15.4 or later, HDR enabled in Display settings, and an HDR-capable cable or adapter if you use one. If the picture also looks low-resolution or otherwise different from expected, check the complete playback chain: the computer, display, connection port, cable or adapter, and HDR support. Netflix explains that every relevant device and connection must support the desired video standard; a mismatch can limit available quality. That does not establish that a cable is causing low brightness, so replacing one is not a general brightness fix. Netflix Help Center: How to get the best video quality
