Capitaine Cursors is a Linux/X cursor theme with a macOS-inspired look, based on KDE Breeze. On Ubuntu, the upstream README documents installing it by copying the theme into an icons directory, then selecting it with your desktop environment’s cursor settings. The README does not give a release-by-release Ubuntu compatibility list or a GNOME-specific settings walkthrough, so exact menu names can vary.
What is Capitaine Cursors?
The Capitaine Cursors project describes the theme as “an x-cursor theme inspired by macOS and based on KDE Breeze.” Its cursor artwork was made in Inkscape, and the project says the theme was designed to pair with the La Capitaine icon pack. It is a Linux cursor theme—not a theme for macOS itself. Capitaine Cursors project README
Install the prebuilt theme on Ubuntu
The upstream README documents copying the theme into either your own home directory or a system-wide icons directory, then choosing it through your desktop environment’s preferred tools. These are the project’s documented commands, not steps verified on a particular Ubuntu release.
User-only installation
Copy the theme to ~/.icons/capitaine-cursors to make it available to your user account. This avoids installing it for every account on the computer.

- Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
System-wide installation
Copy the theme to /usr/share/icons/capitaine-cursors to make it available system-wide. Writing to this directory generally requires administrator privileges.
After copying, open your desktop environment’s appearance or cursor settings and select Capitaine Cursors. Ubuntu’s exact controls depend on the desktop environment and session; the project README does not provide a GNOME-specific walkthrough. It also does not establish compatibility for individual Ubuntu releases or Wayland and X11 sessions.

Ubuntu package and source-build options
Distribution packages
The project README lists pacman -S capitaine-cursors for Arch Linux and a third-party Fedora/EPEL COPR package named la-capitaine-cursor-theme. Those are not Ubuntu installation commands. Package availability can change, and the README does not provide an Ubuntu release-by-release package matrix.
Build from source
For Debian- and Ubuntu-based systems, the README lists this command to install source-build dependencies:

These packages are for compiling the theme, not for ordinary installation from a prebuilt package. The project says a source build can take a long time depending on the maximum DPI selected. Its build options include Unix/Linux or Windows, dark or light variants, and a maximum DPI; prebuilt binaries are also available. Capitaine Cursors project README
Scaling targets
The project’s DPI figures are build targets and intended scale levels, not independent runtime test results for every monitor, Ubuntu release, or desktop session.
