DigitalOcean offers AMD Instinct GPUs through GPU Droplets, but the right option depends on the accelerator, region, purchase plan and whether your workload can tolerate interruption. Its live pricing page, accessed September 30, 2026, lists on-demand MI300X and MI325X, 12-month reserved MI300X, MI325X and MI350X, and spot MI350X and MI355X. Those are dated price and availability snapshots—not guarantees of current inventory.

What DigitalOcean and AMD announced

DigitalOcean announced its AMD collaboration on June 12, 2025, bringing AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs to GPU Droplets in single- and eight-GPU configurations. The launch announcement also described GPU availability for Kubernetes worker nodes; check current product documentation before planning a Kubernetes deployment. The announcement’s $1.99 per GPU-hour MI300X launch rate is historical, not the current rate. DigitalOcean’s 2025 launch announcement

In February 2026, DigitalOcean announced MI350X GPU Droplets, positioning them for production inference. DigitalOcean described workloads including AI inference and other accelerated computing, but those are vendor claims, not independent comparative benchmarks. The announcement reported more than 640,000 company-wide customers; that figure does not indicate how many use GPUs. DigitalOcean’s MI350X announcement

DigitalOcean AMD GPU pricing

The following rates were listed on DigitalOcean’s pricing page as accessed September 30, 2026. They are per GPU-hour, not per whole multi-GPU Droplet, and DigitalOcean says prices can change. The page lists MI300X with 192 GB of GPU memory and MI325X with 256 GB; verify live specifications and rates before ordering. DigitalOcean GPU Droplet pricing

Where AMD GPU Droplets are available

DigitalOcean’s availability documentation lists the following model-and-plan combinations. Regional inventory can change, so confirm the exact GPU and plan in the live regional matrix before provisioning. Availability for one model or plan does not establish availability for another. How to choose a model and plan

Choose the accelerator around the workload

Compare the exact model, available GPU memory, software stack and total GPU count your job requires. MI300X and MI325X are the models for which the cited price page specifies memory figures; check the live listing for other models. Training, fine-tuning, inference and high-performance computing are possible workload categories, but vendor descriptions do not prove performance for your model or framework. Validate compatibility and run a representative workload before committing to a long reservation.

Choose a purchase model around interruption and commitment

  • On demand: The cited pricing page lists MI300X and MI325X. It is a straightforward option when you need those models without the stated 12-month reserved commitment; confirm the live terms and regional capacity.
  • Reserved: The listed MI300X, MI325X and MI350X rates require a 12-month commitment. The pricing page advises contacting sales, so verify contract terms and capacity before treating the hourly rate as a complete quote.
  • Spot: The listed MI350X and MI355X rates are tied to spare capacity, can change, and instances may be reclaimed. Spot is best suited to interruption-tolerant work. Save checkpoints outside temporary scratch storage and design jobs to resume; do not assume uninterrupted runtime.

Check scale and storage behavior

DigitalOcean describes GPU Droplets in one- or eight-GPU configurations, with persistent boot storage and non-persistent scratch storage. Confirm that the needed configuration is offered for the selected model, region and plan. AI/ML-ready images include vendor drivers and software; a standard image may require you to install and configure drivers and other software yourself. DigitalOcean GPU Droplet documentation

Understand billing before creating a GPU Droplet

DigitalOcean’s Droplet pricing documentation says GPU instances are billed by the second, with a 60-second or $0.01 minimum. Billing starts when the Droplet is created and ends when it is destroyed. Powering it off does not release the allocation: the powered-off GPU Droplet remains billable. Spot capacity and rates can vary, and instances can be reclaimed; consult the current price page for applicable rates and notice terms. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing and billing

  1. Estimate the run cost using the current per-GPU-hour rate, GPU count and expected runtime. Include the possibility of retries for interruptible work.
  2. Track the Droplet’s state and storage needs. Powering it off is not a billing stop.
  3. When you no longer need the allocation, destroy the Droplet. Preserve any data you need first, particularly data on non-persistent scratch storage.

Is DigitalOcean’s AMD offering low-cost?

“Low-cost” describes DigitalOcean’s hosted infrastructure positioning, not proof that AMD hardware is universally cheaper or faster than alternatives. A fair comparison requires the same workload, software configuration, GPU count, memory needs, region, runtime and service terms. The DigitalOcean launch announcements do not provide independent benchmark results establishing a general performance or price advantage. Compare total job cost and practical throughput on your own workload rather than choosing by hourly rate alone.
