Normal scrcpy mirroring requires USB debugging to have been enabled and that computer authorized; if you cannot meet those requirements, its OTG mode can send mouse or keyboard input without USB debugging, but gives you no mirrored view.
What scrcpy can—and cannot—do
Genymobile describes scrcpy as an application that mirrors Android devices connected over USB or TCP/IP and lets you control them with a computer keyboard and mouse. It is free, open source, runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS, requires no root access or app installation on the phone, and supports Android API 21 (Android 5.0) and later, according to the project documentation.
For normal mirroring, the phone must boot, USB debugging must already be enabled, the computer must be visible to ADB, and the phone must have authorized that computer. When these conditions are met, scrcpy opens a desktop window showing the phone, and you can use the computer’s mouse and keyboard to operate it. If Android asks you to approve the computer and the display is unreadable or touch is unavailable, you may not be able to complete authorization.
Some Xiaomi devices also require enabling the separate “USB debugging (Security Settings)” permission for mouse and keyboard input injection. Audio forwarding is documented for Android 11 (API 30) and later, but it is not needed for basic control or file recovery.

Try the recovery options in this order
1. Rule out a simple screen problem
Before connecting accessories, try the basic checks Google recommends for an unresponsive, flickering, jumping, blank, or otherwise malfunctioning screen: inspect the phone for obvious physical damage, remove the case and screen protector, clean the display, and restart the phone. See Google’s Android screen troubleshooting steps.
2. Use scrcpy if debugging and authorization are already in place
- Connect the phone to a computer with a USB data cable. A charging-only cable will not provide the data connection needed for this route.
- Launch scrcpy on the computer. If the device is recognized and authorized through ADB, a window should display the phone.
- Use the computer’s mouse and keyboard to unlock the phone, navigate Android, and copy important files to a safe location.
If the computer does not recognize the phone, check the cable and connection, and confirm that USB debugging was enabled and the computer was previously authorized. If those conditions are not met, normal mirroring may not work.

3. Try OTG mode when you need input, not a mirror
scrcpy’s --otg mode simulates physical keyboard and mouse input over USB and does not require USB debugging. Connect the required OTG adapter and a compatible wired mouse or keyboard, then run scrcpy --otg. Depending on the phone, you may need an adapter that matches its USB-C or Micro-USB port, and the phone must support USB OTG.
OTG mode is a blind-input fallback: it does not show the phone’s display on the computer. It may help when the touchscreen fails but the phone still responds to physical input. If the display is blank, you will have to navigate without seeing the result of each action, so avoid steps that could erase or change data.

Choose a route based on what still works

Protect files before attempting a reset
If you regain control, copy the files that matter before trying factory reset or other destructive recovery actions. A reset can erase data, and it will not solve the problem of recovering files that have not been backed up. If normal mirroring is unavailable and the screen is unreadable, OTG can only help if you can safely navigate without a visual view.
The right accessories depend on the phone: match the connector (USB-C or Micro-USB), use a USB data cable for the computer connection, and verify OTG support before relying on a mouse or keyboard. These accessories enable a connection or input; they do not replace scrcpy or guarantee recovery.
