FabCon and SQLCon 2026 brought Microsoft Fabric and SQL communities together in two co-located events: one in Atlanta in March and one in Barcelona in September. Their programs covered analytics, SQL modernization, governance and Microsoft’s broader AI direction. Both events have now concluded; this guide explains how they fit together and how to make sense of their program themes.
What is FabCon and SQLCon 2026?
FabCon is Microsoft’s community conference focused on Microsoft Fabric and data analytics. SQLCon focuses on SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL in Fabric, SQL tools and database work. In 2026, Microsoft co-located the events so attendees could combine sessions across both programs instead of treating data analytics and relational databases as separate tracks.
For the Atlanta event, Microsoft’s SQL Server Blog described the arrangement this way: “One registration, double the value: Register for either conference and get full access to both – mix and match sessions, keynotes, and community events to fit your interests.” The shared setup included the expo hall, registration desk, conference app and community lounge. Keynotes were held at State Farm Arena, and the attendee party was at the Georgia Aquarium.
The two conferences were aimed at different, overlapping interests. Fabric attendees could focus on data integration, analytics and governance; SQL attendees could concentrate on databases, application development and modernization. People working across both areas could build a program that connected the platform and database perspectives.

When and where is FabCon SQLCon 2026?
The 2026 events took place in Atlanta and Barcelona. The dates and venues differed by location:
| Event | Dates | Venue or location |
|---|---|---|
| FabCon and SQLCon Atlanta | March 16–20, 2026 | Atlanta, Georgia; the Atlanta announcement named State Farm Arena for keynotes and the Georgia Aquarium for the attendee party. |
| FabCon and SQLCon Europe | September 28–October 1, 2026 | Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. |
Both 2026 programs are over. Microsoft’s SQL Server Blog announcement described the Atlanta SQLCon program as offering 50 breakout sessions and four expert-led workshops. Microsoft’s Fabric Blog reported that the European program had 130+ expert-led sessions, 100+ speakers and 10+ hands-on tutorials. Those figures describe the programs as Microsoft presented them; they do not establish session attendance or which sessions ultimately ran as scheduled.
What sessions should I attend at FabCon?
There is no single best track for every attendee. The most useful program depends on the work you need to do next: building a Fabric data platform, operating SQL databases, moving workloads, or putting AI features into a governed production environment. These distinctions also help readers reviewing the 2026 program after the events.

Choose Fabric sessions for platform and analytics work
Prioritize sessions on OneLake, analytics, governance, data agents and platform unification if your work involves connecting data across an organization or building shared analytical foundations. These topics align with Microsoft’s stated platform direction around a unified data foundation and Fabric IQ.

Choose SQL sessions for database engineering and modernization
Look for SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL in Fabric and SQL tools if you work directly with relational databases. The Atlanta SQLCon announcement also identified migration and modernization, optimization, database security and AI apps with SQL among its program areas. Match these topics to your immediate needs: for example, database performance work points toward optimization, while a move from an existing deployment points toward migration and modernization.
Separate AI overviews from implementation sessions
An introductory session about AI direction can explain concepts and platform positioning, but it is not the same as a build-oriented session. If you need implementation experience, look for material on data agents, semantic or vector search, and production governance. For any session described as hands-on, check whether it includes a tutorial, workshop or guided build rather than relying on the AI label alone.

Compare deployment paths and practical value
For a modernization decision, compare the approaches relevant to your estate: on-premises SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL capabilities in Fabric, or a hybrid path. The right choice depends on your existing systems and target architecture; the conference themes alone do not determine a migration plan.
If you need practice rather than overview, prioritize workshops and tutorials. If your objective is broader professional development, compare the technical sessions with opportunities for community networking, certification learning, or partner and consulting conversations. The program descriptions establish that workshops and tutorials were offered, but do not provide a complete session-by-session agenda here.

The event material points to a connected platform direction rather than one isolated feature announcement. Microsoft’s Fabric SQL Future Ready Digital Summit framed that direction around unified data foundations, Fabric IQ, Fabric Real-Time Intelligence, data agents, OneLake, governance and secure AI execution. These are themes for understanding how Microsoft presents Fabric’s relationship to data and AI; the cited event material does not establish that every item was newly launched at the conferences.
Rank #4
Microsoft Reactor’s recap described a SQL roadmap running from on-premises deployments to Azure and Fabric, positioning SQL as a unified, AI-ready relational foundation for next-generation applications. That framing connects familiar database capabilities with cloud and analytics environments; it should not be read as meaning that the deployment choices are identical or that every SQL workload must move to Fabric.
For readers assessing practical changes, the useful distinction is between platform direction and a specific product release. The conference descriptions establish the themes above, but they do not supply release versions, rollout dates, regional availability or a complete change log. Confirm those details against the relevant Microsoft product documentation before planning an upgrade or migration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do Fabric and SQL support Copilot and AI agents?
Microsoft’s event material places AI features in the context of data foundations, agents and secure execution. Fabric can serve as the governed data platform in that story, while SQL provides a relational data foundation for applications and AI-enabled workflows. Those ideas are relevant to Copilot, but the cited event material does not establish a single product announcement titled “Copilot” as the defining feature of FabCon or SQLCon 2026.

For an organization evaluating an AI or Copilot-related implementation, the practical questions are more specific than whether a platform is “AI-ready”:
- Data foundation: Which data is available to the application or agent, and how is it organized across the relevant platform?
- Governance: How are access, permissions and data handling controlled for the people and services using the system?
- Agent behavior: Is the session discussing agent concepts, or showing an implementation such as a data agent or semantic or vector search?
- Production controls: What secure execution and operational governance are demonstrated, and what remains the customer’s responsibility?
- Database fit: Does the workload depend on SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL in Fabric or a combination, and what would modernization change?
These questions help separate an AI vision briefing from implementation guidance. The event themes support a broader story about Fabric, SQL and agents working together; they do not establish a universal architecture, a particular Copilot capability for every attendee, or a promise that a given workload can be migrated without design work.
What did Partner Day cover?
Partner Day programming addressed Microsoft’s AI and data priorities, practice growth, Fabric apps, co-selling, migration to Fabric, and customer value propositions combining AI and data. For consulting and services teams, those topics point to possible work in implementation, migration, governance, training and app extension. The program themes indicate areas of partner activity, not guaranteed customer demand or a published referral or affiliate arrangement.
