It is free, but “local” refers to where LMCP’s tools run—not a guarantee that the information they retrieve stays on your Mac. If you send tool results to a cloud AI provider, that provider can receive the requested content.
What LMCP does—and what the “local” label means
LMCP acts as a bridge between an MCP-compatible AI client and supported apps or data on your computer. Its publisher advertises 191+ tools in 2026; that is the publisher’s own count, not an independent verification or a promise that every tool is available or works in every setup. Integrations vary by operating system.
LMCP’s Permissions documentation puts the distinction plainly: “Local tools execute on your Mac or Windows PC; cloud AI providers can receive requested content.” In practice, a tool may read or act on local information, then return a result to the AI client. If that client uses a cloud provider, the returned content can leave the computer. The optional Cloud Relay adds LMCP infrastructure to the route between a web-based AI service and the provider.
LMCP’s privacy policy also describes collection of anonymous operational heartbeats and installation-event data. It says heartbeat records have a 90-day rolling retention period; that applies to heartbeat records, not all user content. Review the current policy and the terms of the AI provider and any connectors in your workflow before using sensitive information.

Is your computer and AI client supported?
LMCP’s installation page lists macOS 13 or later and Windows 10 or later. The Mac build is listed for Apple Silicon and Intel; the Windows installer is for 64-bit Windows 10 or later and, according to the publisher, does not require administrator rights. Linux is not currently listed as supported. These are the publisher’s stated requirements and may change.
The installer can configure detected, supported AI clients. Claude Code is among the compatible clients described by LMCP, but client compatibility and available integrations can vary. Check the current installation instructions for your operating system and client before proceeding.

Install LMCP
- Choose an installation route. The publisher offers native installers and optional terminal setup. Use the current instructions on LMCP’s installation page for the appropriate operating system.
- Install and configure the client. Follow the installer prompts. It can configure supported AI clients it detects; if you use terminal setup or your client is not detected, follow the relevant documented steps.
- Restart or start a fresh session. Restart the AI client or open a new session as instructed so it can load the MCP server configuration.
- Grant only the permissions your workflow needs. macOS may prompt for permissions during setup or when a feature first needs them. Review each prompt and the corresponding capability before approving.
- Test the specific tool cautiously. Start with a low-risk task and inspect what the tool reads or changes. Check its documentation for whether it previews an action or requires confirmation; preview behavior is not guaranteed for every tool.
What Mac permissions might LMCP need?
LMCP’s permissions documentation maps macOS permissions to particular capabilities. The necessary set depends on the apps and tools you choose; having LMCP installed does not mean every permission is needed for every workflow.
- Calendars, Contacts, and Reminders: access to the corresponding data for supported functions.
- Full Disk Access: listed for certain mail content, attachments, messages, and local app caches.
- Automation: allows actions in selected apps. The publisher says Mail automation is requested during setup, while other permissions are requested when needed.
- Accessibility: enables GUI automation.
- Screen Recording: used for screen capture.
Grant only what the tasks you intend to use require. You can review or revoke permissions in macOS System Settings. Revoking access can make the related LMCP function stop working.

Can LMCP read Microsoft Teams without Graph API?
LMCP’s FAQ says its Mac implementation reads Teams messages from the app’s local IndexedDB cache, rather than using the Graph API. This describes the documented Mac approach; it does not establish that every Teams version, account, or computer will have the needed cache or permissions. Check the current integration requirements for your setup, and do not assume the same method applies on Windows or other platforms.
What to check before allowing actions
Read the documentation for the particular tool before authorizing it to send a message, edit a record, or delete content. The FAQ says many changing tools show a preview, but not every action is described as previewing changes. Treat a preview or confirmation as a safeguard to inspect—not a substitute for verifying the recipient, content, and effect.

Does LMCP make an AI workflow private or compliant?
No. Local execution does not prevent requested content from being sent to the selected AI provider, and Cloud Relay introduces an additional route through LMCP infrastructure. The publisher’s FAQ says: “Compliance depends on your full workflow, policies and provider agreements.” LMCP alone does not guarantee GDPR or other regulatory compliance. Consider the data accessed, the AI provider’s terms, optional connectors, organizational policies, and applicable agreements together.
