The orbiTouch replaces individual key presses with paired movements of two sliding domes: each combination sends a character or function, and a separate mode lets the same device control a mouse pointer. It is designed as an alternative for people who have difficulty using a conventional keyboard, but the manufacturer’s ergonomic and learning-speed claims should not be mistaken for independently established medical results.
How the two-dome input works
The orbiTouch is a physical input device made by Blue Orb, Inc. Rather than pressing letter keys, the user slides each of two domes into one of eight positions. The pair of positions determines the character or function sent to the computer. Blue Orb’s July 2017 Un-Manual describes 128 character/function combinations.
The device therefore changes the typing action: a character comes from coordinating two directional movements, not from striking an individual key. That distinction may matter to someone who finds conventional key presses difficult, but it also means the user must learn the device’s position-to-character mapping.
Using its integrated mouse
Mouse control is built into the device rather than supplied by a separate pointing surface. According to the July 2017 Un-Manual, slide the left dome down twice to enter mouse mode. The right dome then moves the cursor, while the left dome makes clicks. The manual describes the mode-switching sequence and controls; it does not establish how quickly a new user will find them comfortable.

- 【DIRECTOR-C SPLIT KETBOARD】Designed to minimize strain and discomfort in your hands, wrists, and arms, this keyboard is split into two halves, allowing each hand to type at a comfortable angle and distance, so you can say goodbye to excessive reaching and twisting. Please note: The USB-C is not a receiver and cannot be used on its own, it is an adapter that needs to be plugged into a USB-A receiver in order to work. (Connection distance within 33 feet)
- 【LARGE SIZE STANDARD ERGONOMIC AND FULL SIZE LAYOUT】Designed with a concave curve, which conforms to the natural shape of the hands and fingers, reducing strain and fatigue. In addition, each key is slightly angled to promote a more natural typing motion and further alleviate stress on your fingers, hands, and wrists. The mouse and keyboard share a common USA-A receiver.
- 【RECHARGEABLE AND LONG LASTING】 Featuring a 500mAh and 500mAh rechargeable battery in both the keyboard and mouse, providing long-lasting performance for extended use. The battery holds power for up to 1-2 months of usage on a single full charge. You can focus on work and worry less about charging. (Charge your keyboard and mouse before you use them. We recommend using the 5V 1A charging specification.).
Who Blue Orb says it is for
Blue Orb presents the orbiTouch as an accessibility-oriented alternative for people who have difficulty operating a conventional keyboard. Its product materials list conditions and situations including arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. These are the manufacturer’s intended-use descriptions, not evidence that the device treats any of those conditions.
Blue Orb’s history page says that Dr. Peter McAlindon developed the device while pursuing a doctoral degree in industrial engineering at the University of Central Florida. The company says his focus on ergonomics followed repetitive stress injury in his hands from long hours typing papers. This is the manufacturer’s account of the product’s origin.

Compatibility, setup, and current listed price
Blue Orb’s product page says no software installation is required and claims compatibility with nearly every device, including iPad and Android tablets. Its reseller information names Windows, Mac, and Linux, and says iOS and Android use requires a cable adapter. Because tablet connectors and configurations vary, confirm the required adapter and compatibility with your specific device before ordering. The reseller also promotes USB plug-and-play operation and a 128-key replacement capability; these are seller claims, so check the current configuration if they affect your decision.
Blue Orb’s product page listed the orbiTouch at $399.00 when accessed September 30, 2026. Price and availability can change; verify the current listing directly on the Blue Orb product page.

Learning the layout and setting expectations
The July 2017 Un-Manual acknowledges an initial learning curve. It claims that many users become proficient after approximately 3.5 hours of practice and gives typical average typing speeds of 30–40 words per minute. Those are figures reported by the manufacturer in that manual, not independent guarantees or results established for every user. Treat them as estimates to test against your own motor skills, practice time, and intended tasks.
Before relying on the device for school, work, or communication, consider trying the dome movements and mouse-mode transition with the tasks you actually need to do. The cited product information does not establish how performance varies by task or user, so a hands-on trial is more informative than assuming the manual’s averages will apply to you.

What the ergonomic and medical claims establish
Blue Orb’s manual says the domes eliminate finger and wrist motion, but also reports 7 millimeters of dome travel and acknowledges similar upper-arm biomechanical requirements to regular typing. It reports a dome force of 7 N and compares that force with keyboard force and Section 508 requirements; these comparisons are claims in the manual and have not been independently validated here.
Most importantly, the manual’s medical caveat is explicit: “While we are still collecting data on whether the orbiTouch eliminates carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), our research data does indicate that it can help prevent or reduce the repetitive motions that are suspect in causing CTS.” This is Blue Orb’s statement in its 2017 manual, not a clinical finding that the device prevents, reduces, or treats carpal tunnel syndrome. Less finger and wrist movement alone does not prove a health benefit.
Best Value
- 【Desk-Friendly Layout】Unlike the Director-C which features taller keycaps, this keyboard offers lower-profile, neatly squared keycaps with a slightly reduced overall footprint. Its space-conscious design helps avoid unnecessary desk clutter, freeing up a tidy area for your mouse, documents, and water cup.

Blue Orb’s website lists titles of research papers on topics such as keyboard layout, force and displacement, typing motion and performance, autism, and the device’s development. The materials cited here do not establish those papers’ study designs, sample sizes, outcome magnitudes, independent replication, or current clinical consensus. Testimonials on the company site are anecdotes, not clinical evidence.
Quick Recap
What to weigh before choosing it
- Input method: Characters come from paired dome positions rather than individual key presses, and the mouse is operated through a mode change.
- Learning: Expect to learn the position mapping and mouse controls; the practice-time and speed figures are manufacturer claims from 2017.
- Device fit: Confirm operating-system support and, for iOS or Android, the required cable adapter with the seller and device maker.
- Cost: Compare the current price with your budget and the value of a hands-on trial before committing.
- Health expectations: Evaluate it as an alternative input method, not as a proven treatment or prevention for an injury or condition.
