There is no established universal winner for the best foldable smartphone camera as of October 2, 2026. Among the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the choice comes down to priorities: Samsung lists a 200 MP main camera, while Google’s phone has a 5x optical telephoto camera. Independent comparisons report differences by scene, zoom, portrait rendering, and low-light performance—not a single camera that wins every situation.
Which foldable camera is best for you?
This comparison covers the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold; it does not rank every foldable available in October 2026. The available evidence does not establish a universal winner or a standardized comparative camera score. Choose based on what you photograph and how you use zoom, rather than treating megapixels as a complete measure of image quality.
- Choose the Fold7 as the candidate to consider if a high-resolution main camera and Samsung’s camera configuration suit your priorities.
- Consider the Pixel 10 Pro Fold if longer optical telephoto reach matters: Google lists a 5x telephoto camera, compared with the Fold7’s 3x telephoto.
- For portraits and low light, compare the specific scenes in independent reviews. Published observations differ by situation, so they do not support a blanket winner.
The models were announced in 2025: Samsung announced the Fold7 on July 9, and Google announced the Pixel 10 Pro Fold on August 20. Because “best to date” changes as new phones arrive, this comparison is dated October 2, 2026. Samsung’s announcement and Google’s announcement establish those launch dates, not that these are the only current foldables.

| Camera feature | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 | Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold |
|---|---|---|
| Main or wide rear camera | 200 MP wide-angle. Samsung says this is the same camera available on the Galaxy S25 Ultra; that is Samsung’s product claim, not independent validation. | 48 MP wide |
| Ultrawide rear camera | 12 MP ultrawide | 10.5 MP ultrawide with Macro Focus |
| Telephoto rear camera | 10 MP telephoto with 3x reach | 10.8 MP 5x telephoto; Google lists optical-quality zoom points at 0.5x, 1x, 5x, and 10x |
| Cover-screen camera | 10 MP | Not stated on Google’s cited specification page |
| Main-screen camera | 10 MP with a 100-degree field of view | Not stated on Google’s cited specification page |
Samsung’s Fold7 camera specifications and its comparison with the S25 Ultra are on Samsung’s product page. Samsung says the main-screen camera’s 100-degree field of view is intended to include more in the frame for group selfies. Google’s rear-camera specifications and zoom points are on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold specifications page. A higher megapixel count alone does not establish which phone will make the better photo.
What the specifications mean in everyday use
Zoom reach
The clearest hardware difference is telephoto reach. Google lists a 5x optical telephoto camera; Samsung lists a 3x telephoto camera. That gives the Pixel longer optical reach on paper, which may be useful for distant subjects. It does not by itself establish which phone produces the better image at every zoom setting: processing and the scene also matter.
Rank #2
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Main camera detail and processing
The Fold7’s listed 200 MP wide camera has a much higher resolution number than the Pixel’s 48 MP wide camera. Resolution is one specification, not a comparative image-quality score. The collected evidence does not provide a neutral benchmark showing that the Fold7’s main-camera photos are better overall, nor does it establish a definitive winner for detail or processing.
Ultrawide and close-ups
Google specifically lists Macro Focus for the Pixel’s 10.5 MP ultrawide. Samsung lists a 12 MP ultrawide but the cited product information does not state a macro feature. The available evidence therefore supports identifying Google’s listed macro capability, not a conclusion about which phone takes better close-ups.
Rank #3
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Portraits and low light
Independent reviews discuss differences in portrait rendering and low-light output, but the findings vary by reviewer and scene. No named comparative score or common test method in the available evidence settles which phone is best for either category. For a purchase decision, look for review samples that resemble your subjects and lighting rather than treating one reviewer’s result as universal. Tom’s Guide’s comparison and Android Authority’s comparison discuss the competing phones; their observations are review findings, not a standardized industry ranking.
Selfies and foldable-specific framing
Samsung lists both a 10 MP cover camera and a 10 MP main-screen camera. It describes the main-screen camera’s 100-degree field of view as a way to fit more people into group selfies. That specification is useful context for framing, but it is not an independent demonstration that Fold7 selfies are better. The cited Google specification page does not state comparable front-camera details, so this evidence cannot support a front-camera ranking.
Rank #4
- BIGGER, YET SLIMMER THAN EVER: Who would’ve guessed that wider could also be lighter? The design of Galaxy Z Fold7 is refined to feel like a traditional smartphone with its expanded cover display.
- BEST CAMERA ON A FOLD YET: You asked for more – now you can have the most. Galaxy Z Fold7 now boasts an ultra-premium 200MP camera with Pro-Visual Engine so you can effortlessly take incredibly detailed pics.
- SCREENSHARE FOR STREAMLINED ASSISTANCE: Intrigued by something you see? Go Live with Google Gemini, then screenshare or point your camera at it for additional info or assistance on the fly.¹
- DO AND VIEW MORE, ALL AT ONCE: With an 8” screen that allows you to view up to three windows at once, Galaxy Z Fold7 is the ultimate device for seeing and doing more.²
- ALL THE POWER AND SPEED YOU NEED Smoothly run your day with the power and speed of Galaxy Z Fold7. With its customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy, you can stream your favorite shows, edit photos, scroll social feeds and more with ease.³
How to choose between them
- Start with your subjects. If you often photograph distant subjects, the Pixel’s listed 5x telephoto is the more relevant specification than the Fold7’s 3x telephoto.
- Check the photos, not just the megapixels. For everyday main-camera use, compare independent sample images at similar distances and lighting. A 200 MP specification does not settle the result against a 48 MP camera.
- Match review scenes to your needs. For portraits or night shots, compare examples of faces and lighting similar to yours. The available reviews report scene-dependent trade-offs rather than a universal result.
- Consider framing and close-ups. Samsung describes a wide-field main-screen camera for group selfies; Google lists Macro Focus on its ultrawide. These are different listed features, not directly comparable quality ratings.
What “best to date” can—and cannot—mean
The title’s “I’ve used” wording should not be read as a claim of personal testing here. The available evidence consists of official specifications, product announcements, and published comparisons; it does not establish firsthand use or a controlled test of every current foldable. The defensible conclusion is narrower: the Fold7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold have different camera strengths, and the best fit depends on the reader’s subjects and priorities. A universal best-foldable-camera verdict for October 2026 is not established.
