The right choice depends first on what you are building and where it must run—not on a universal ranking.
This shortlist covers ten distinct jobs, from data-backed internal tools to automation. Prices below are signals from official pricing pages reviewed August 18, 2026; plans, currencies, billing terms, and included usage can change. Check the linked page for the exact offer available to you before buying.
What counts as a no-code development platform?
The label covers several kinds of products that are not direct substitutes. A website builder creates and publishes pages; an app builder adds data, accounts, and business logic; an internal-tool platform gives staff interfaces to databases and APIs; and an automation platform connects actions across other services.
- No-code usually means building mainly through visual configuration rather than writing conventional code.
- Low-code adds formulas, expressions, SQL, scripts, or custom connectors for cases the visual tools do not cover. Power Apps and Retool are often better understood this way, while FlutterFlow also suits users comfortable with technical decisions.
- AI app builders can produce a starting point from prompts, but generated screens and workflows still need validation, data modeling, access controls, testing, and deployment work. A generated prototype is not automatically a production system. Bubble’s overview of no-code app platforms and a 2025 paper on AI app building reflect the category’s expanding scope.
- Composable stacks combine specialized products—for example, a website front end, a separate data source, and an automation service—rather than relying on one tool for everything.
Comparison roundups often put unlike products side by side. That can be useful for discovery, but only after you identify the job you need done. ToolRadar’s roundup and Yehonatan Dev’s guide illustrate the breadth of products commonly grouped under the label.

These are entry-price signals, not like-for-like estimates: one may be per project, another per user or builder, and another per automation credit. The official pages linked in each profile define current inclusions and conditions.
Which platform fits each kind of project?
1. Bubble — serious web applications
Choose Bubble when the product needs user accounts, related data, conditional workflows, payments, APIs, and a public-facing web experience. It brings visual UI building, a database, workflows, API connections, and hosting into one environment, making it a candidate for SaaS MVPs, marketplaces, bookings, memberships, and customer dashboards.
Bubble’s pricing page lists a free development option with an API connector, native mobile editor, and 50,000 workload units per month. Starter is listed at $59/month when billed annually and includes a live website, custom domain, recurring workflows, 175,000 workload units per month, and mobile publishing allowances. Workload units represent server resources used to run and scale an app; use from web and mobile in the same project is cumulative. Bubble says overages can be disabled. See Bubble pricing.
Bubble is not a shortcut around architecture: data relationships, privacy rules, API security, responsive layouts, testing, and workload optimization still need deliberate design. It is a weaker fit for a brochure site, a simple spreadsheet interface, or a project requiring portable native source code. Its hosted application logic also makes migration a meaningful planning issue. For a more data-first internal tool, compare Glide and Bubble’s differing focus.
Recommended Free Tools
2. Webflow — design-led websites and CMS publishing
Webflow is the better fit when visual control, responsive presentation, and publishing workflow matter more than user-specific application logic. It suits marketing sites, landing pages, portfolios, and CMS-driven editorial sites. It can sit beside an app builder or backend, but it should not be treated as a direct replacement for Bubble in a complex SaaS product.
The official page lists a free Starter site with a Webflow.io domain, two static pages, limited CMS, 1 GB bandwidth, and 50 form submissions. Basic is $15/month billed yearly; Premium is $25/month billed yearly and adds CMS capabilities, site search, code components, and file-upload support. Check current plan details at Webflow pricing.
3. FlutterFlow — native mobile and code-export options
Prioritize FlutterFlow if iOS or Android distribution, native device capabilities, or a later developer handoff is important. It supports mobile, web, and desktop projects and is more developer-adjacent than a spreadsheet-to-app tool: authentication, backend architecture, APIs, and deployment decisions remain part of the work.
The free plan includes up to two projects, API and data integration, web publishing, and limited AI credits. Basic is listed at $39/month and adds source-code and APK downloads, custom-domain publishing, local-device testing, and one-click app-store deployment. Growth starts at $80/month for the first seat and $55/month for the second; listed additions include GitHub integration, collaboration, branching, OpenAPI imports, and a VS Code extension. See FlutterFlow pricing.
Rank #2
- With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- The 13.5" 2256 x 1504 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
- 8 Hours battery run time helps you stay unwired and work longer non-stop
Source-code download is a meaningful portability advantage, not proof that every part of the deployed system becomes independent of FlutterFlow. Verify what the exported project includes and how its backend, services, and integrations will operate after handoff.
4. Glide — fast data-backed business apps
Glide is a practical starting point for inventory tools, staff directories, field checklists, simple CRM interfaces, and operational dashboards built around structured data. It emphasizes quick business interfaces rather than deep customization of a public transactional product. Its progressive-web-app orientation is not the same as native iOS or Android app-store deployment.
The pricing page lists Free at $0/month, Solo at $25/month, and Team at $125/month. Solo includes five projects and a database; Team includes five members, a team dashboard, and member-only sign-in. Enterprise features listed include single sign-on, custom connectors, backups, and dedicated support. Confirm current limits and source-data constraints at Glide pricing.
5. Softr — client portals and business software
Softr is designed for portals, intranets, member directories, knowledge bases, dashboards, and operations apps assembled around business data. It is often a more direct fit than Bubble when the desired outcome is a conventional portal or internal business app, rather than a highly bespoke product experience.

Softr’s official materials describe data sources, authentication, permissions, and templates for use cases including CRM, inventory, project management, and business operations. The pricing page showed a free-start message, but a reliable paid-plan price was not available in the reviewed page content. Check the live tiers at Softr pricing. Before committing, verify user limits, data-source limits, and whether the required access rules are supported.
6. Airtable — structured data and operational workflows
Airtable works well as a shared operational data layer: content calendars, project tracking, lightweight CRM, inventory, campaign operations, and structured team records. Its platform combines databases, interfaces, reporting, views, automations, integrations, governance and security features, and AI features. Airtable describes integrations with services such as Slack, Google Drive, Salesforce, Jira, and Zendesk.
It is often a backend or workflow foundation rather than a complete branded public application. Teams may pair it with a front end such as Softr or Glide, or with Webflow, Make, Zapier, or a custom interface. If public user roles, complex authorization, or high-scale transactional behavior are central, test those requirements rather than assuming a team database covers them. Check the current plan and limits at Airtable pricing.
7. Google AppSheet — apps for Google Workspace teams
AppSheet is a natural candidate for field-service forms, inspections, approvals, inventory, and other apps tied to Google Sheets, Drive, and Workspace administration. Google says users can test apps with up to 10 users at no cost. The pricing page lists Starter at $5/user/month, Core at $10/user/month, and Enterprise Plus at $20/user/month; Core is included in most paid Google Workspace plans, according to the page.

Enterprise Plus adds broader data connections, enhanced security and governance, machine-learning modeling, and priority support. Check whether an existing Workspace subscription includes Core before comparing standalone costs. AppSheet is less suited to a highly differentiated consumer interface or a large external audience where per-user charges dominate. Details: AppSheet pricing.
8. Microsoft Power Apps — governed apps in Microsoft environments
Power Apps fits organizations already invested in Microsoft 365, Teams, Dataverse, Power Automate, and Entra ID. It can support internal enterprise applications, approvals, and compliance workflows where identity, connectors, and administration matter. It is commonly described as low-code: visual assembly is possible, but advanced formulas, security, data modeling, and connectors can require technical expertise.
The official pricing page lists a free Developer Plan for building and testing unlimited apps or automation flows, with three developer environments, connectors, 2 GB of Dataverse database entitlement, and up to 750 automation flows per month. Premium is listed at $20/user/month paid yearly; a $12/user/month option requires a 2,000-seat minimum. Model licensing and connectors before building, and see Power Apps pricing.
9. Retool — internal tools for technical teams
Retool targets teams that are comfortable connecting databases, APIs, queries, permissions, and business systems. It is useful for admin panels, support tools, dashboards, CRUD interfaces, and internal consoles. It is not primarily a consumer website builder, and a technical owner is valuable.
Retool separates builder, internal-user, and external-user pricing and lists cloud and self-hosted options. The reviewed page listed a free tier for up to five users, Team builder pricing at £8/month and Business at £40/month, with internal-user prices separately listed at £4/month for Team and £12/month for Business; Enterprise pricing is custom. Prices are distinct by role and plan, so estimate the actual mix of builders and users on Retool pricing.
10. Make — visual automation across applications
Make connects apps and orchestrates multi-step processes through scenarios, routers, filters, and data transformations. Use it for lead routing, notifications, synchronization, scheduled jobs, and other cross-service workflows. It is an automation platform, not a standalone app builder.
The free plan includes up to 1,000 credits/month, a visual workflow builder, more than 3,000 apps, routers, filters, and a 15-minute minimum interval between runs. Core is listed at $9/month for 10,000 credits/month, Pro at $16, and Teams at $29 at that same credit level. Each module action in a scenario counts as one credit, so record volume and scenario steps affect consumption. Review limits and billing at Make pricing.
Choose by deployment target and project
Start by describing the output the user needs, not by choosing a brand. A responsive website, an installable PWA, and a native mobile application are not interchangeable. Native features such as camera access, push notifications, location, offline behavior, and app-store distribution vary by platform and plan.

- Marketing website or CMS: shortlist Webflow.
- Complex web app or SaaS MVP: shortlist Bubble.
- Native iOS or Android application: shortlist FlutterFlow; compare other mobile-focused products such as Adalo if beginner simplicity is the priority.
- Spreadsheet-to-app internal tool: compare Glide with AppSheet, especially if the organization already uses Google Workspace.
- Client portal or member directory: shortlist Softr.
- Shared structured data and operations: consider Airtable as the data/workflow layer, possibly with a separate front end.
- Microsoft enterprise workflow: shortlist Power Apps.
- Database- or API-driven internal admin tool: compare Retool with Appsmith.
- Cross-application automation: compare Make with Zapier or n8n.
- Source-code handoff is a priority: give FlutterFlow early consideration and inspect exactly what its export includes.
Bubble distinguishes browser-based web apps from native mobile apps; paid deployment is required for live mobile versions and app-store publishing. FlutterFlow Basic lists source-code and APK downloads and one-click app-store deployment. These are materially different capabilities, not interchangeable uses of the word “mobile.” See Bubble’s current plan details and FlutterFlow’s plan details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare total cost, not just the first monthly price
Before comparing subscriptions, establish the billing unit and the expected usage. A low headline price can cover a builder rather than every end user, a development environment rather than production, or a small allowance of credits rather than unlimited work.
- Seats and user types: distinguish builder, internal user, external user, and workspace. Retool separates builder, internal, and external-user pricing; AppSheet and Power Apps show per-user prices.
- Usage allowances: identify workload units, automation credits, records, API calls, bandwidth, storage, or run frequency. Bubble usage reflects server resources, while Make counts module actions as credits.
- Billing cadence and currency: preserve annual-billing conditions, currency, and seat minimums when calculating an estimate. The cited Retool signals are in pounds; prices elsewhere are shown in the currency presented by the listed page.
- Production versus development: confirm whether the free tier can publish a live app, has user or project limits, or is intended for testing.
- Adjacent costs: account for app-store developer accounts, custom domains, storage, connectors, AI allowances, and any separate backend or data source.
- Overages and growth: understand what happens when use exceeds the allowance and whether overages can be capped. Bubble says workload overages can be disabled; Make’s scenario volume and number of module actions affect credits.
For a credible estimate, write down a concrete scenario—number of makers, internal and external users, records, integrations, and monthly workflow runs—then price that scenario against the current plan page. Do not assume a prototype’s cost predicts the cost of a public product.
Check data, permissions, and portability before launch
The front end is only one part of an application. Identify the source of truth for data, how records relate, where files live, and how users are authorized. A tool that connects to a spreadsheet or database inherits constraints from that source as well as its own plan limits.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Data model: check linked records, filtering, search, file storage, API access, and whether the platform uses a built-in database or external source.
- Access control: test record-level visibility, ordinary-user versus administrator privileges, public API exposure, and file-download rules with accounts of each role.
- Secrets and integrations: determine where API keys are stored and how webhook failures, retries, and invalid data are handled.
- Operations: confirm logs, backups and restore, staging, version history, rollback, monitoring, and support expectations.
- Portability: ask separately whether source code, database records, assets, and workflow definitions can be exported—and whether exported code runs independently.
- Governance: assess SSO, audit logs, data residency, deletion and backup policies, and the scope of any compliance claims for your own deployment.
No visual builder automatically makes an app secure. Review permissions and data exposure in the application you build; vendor security features are not a guarantee that every configuration is safe.
Portability varies. FlutterFlow’s paid plans include source-code download and its Growth plan lists GitHub integration and branching, which can support a developer handoff. Those features do not establish that every dependency disappears. Bubble provides version-control features across paid plans but remains a hosted platform whose application logic and workflows should be evaluated for migration risk. Bubble pricing and FlutterFlow pricing describe current plan capabilities; verify export scope against your intended handoff.
Use a fit score, not a universal winner
To narrow a shortlist, score each candidate against the same requirements. A useful starting weighting is below; change it to reflect the project rather than treating it as an objective league table.
| Criterion | Starting weight | What to test |
|---|---|---|
| Use-case fit | 25% | Does it build the actual kind of site, app, portal, or workflow? |
| Deployment fit | 15% | Browser, PWA, native mobile, desktop, custom domain, or self-hosting? |
| Data and logic | 15% | Can it represent the records, permissions, and business rules required? |
| Integrations | 10% | Are required APIs, connectors, and error-handling paths available? |
| Pricing predictability | 10% | Can expected users and usage be estimated without hidden unit ambiguity? |
| Portability and handoff | 10% | Can another team take over data, code, assets, and operations? |
| Security and governance | 10% | Does the platform support the organization’s access and administration requirements? |
| Learning curve | 5% | Can the people maintaining it learn and operate the system? |
A consumer mobile founder might increase the weight for native deployment and code handoff. A marketing team publishing a CMS site might prioritize design workflow and editorial controls instead.

- Adalo: consider for a beginner-oriented mobile app-building path and app-store publication.
- WeWeb: consider for a flexible web front end paired with a separate backend.
- Appsmith or Budibase: consider when self-hosted internal tools matter more than a beginner-first experience.
- Noloco: consider for database-backed portals and business apps.
- Zapier: consider when ease of use and mainstream integrations matter more than complex branching.
- n8n: consider when technical users want more control or self-hosting for automation.
- Custom development: consider when portability, unusual performance, infrastructure control, or regulatory requirements outweigh the speed of visual assembly.
Questions to answer before committing
- Who will use the app: staff, customers, partners, or all three?
- Is it internal, public, or partner-facing?
- Must it run in a browser, as a PWA, as a native mobile app, or across several targets?
- What is the source of truth for data, and how many records and users are expected?
- Which integrations are mandatory, and what happens when an API call fails?
- Are SSO, auditability, data residency, or other governance requirements essential?
- Can the platform export the data, assets, code, and workflows you may need to move?
- What changes in the bill if users or automation volume double?
- Who will maintain, test, and secure the app six months after launch?
Answering these questions will usually reduce the list to two or three realistic options. Build a small proof of concept around the hardest requirement—such as permissions, an integration, or a deployment target—before moving important data or committing a business process to a platform.
