There is no universally best proxy provider. The right choice depends on target difficulty, required countries, session length, acceptable failure rate, rendering needs, and whether you want raw proxy access or a managed scraper. For most teams, start by choosing the proxy type, then test a small workload against the sites you are allowed to crawl.
This 2026 guide separates independent comparison results from vendor claims. The evidence supports seven providers for a meaningful shortlist; five additional names are included as options to investigate, not as equally verified recommendations.
How to choose a web-scraping proxy
Match the proxy type to the target
- Datacenter proxies: Usually fast, stable, and cost-effective for less challenging research tasks. They are easier for sophisticated anti-bot systems to identify, and acceptance varies by target.
- Residential proxies: IP addresses associated with consumer or ISP connections. They can be harder to block, but pools may be shared, addresses rotate, and the advertised pool is not necessarily available at every moment.
- ISP or static residential proxies: Useful when a workflow needs a longer-lived address. Session duration, allocation, and rotation rules differ by provider, so confirm the exact terms rather than assuming a common industry definition.
- Mobile proxies: May help with targets that evaluate mobile-network reputation, but cost and availability are highly location-dependent.
Compare more than price per gigabyte
- Target countries, cities, ASN or carrier targeting, and the size of the immediately available pool.
- Sticky-session controls, rotation intervals, concurrency limits, bandwidth billing, and minimum commitments.
- Success rate and response time under a stated test method—not a universal guarantee.
- Browser rendering, JavaScript execution, CAPTCHA or bot-check handling, retries, and structured output if you choose a managed scraper.
- Support, acceptable-use rules, consent and sourcing documentation, and the provider’s process for abuse complaints.
Check the target site’s terms, robots guidance, privacy obligations, and applicable law before collecting data. A proxy does not make prohibited access lawful.
2026 shortlist: the seven providers with the clearest evidence
| Provider | Best fit described by the comparisons | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Bright Data | Broad scraping projects needing Web Unlocker, Scraping Browser, or Web Scraper API tooling. | Provider comparison claims broad reach and targeting; complex features may be costly for small jobs. |
| Decodo | Value-oriented or general-purpose residential scraping. | Proxyway’s 2026 test reported strong results, but pool and price figures differ between comparison pages. |
| Oxylabs | Enterprise operations needing a broad proxy lineup and support. | Check current pricing and contract requirements; its datacenter guidance is provider-authored. |
| SOAX | Workloads requiring granular geographic targeting and residential or mobile coverage. | Confirm the exact location levels and billing rules for your plan. |
| Webshare | Self-service evaluation and basic workflows, including a free datacenter entry point described by comparisons. | Do not treat free datacenter IPs as equivalent to paid residential traffic. |
| IPRoyal | Flexible or pay-as-you-go projects needing residential, ISP, datacenter, or mobile choices. | Verify current country availability, pool size, and plan terms. |
| Rayobyte | Projects comparing several proxy types and a trial option. | Comparison pages disagree substantially on pool size; verify scope directly before purchasing. |
Bright Data
Bright Data is the strongest fit when proxy connectivity is only one part of the system. The comparison describes Web Unlocker, Scraping Browser, and Web Scraper API products alongside its proxy network. That can reduce the engineering needed for rendering, retries, and anti-bot responses. The trade-off is operational and financial complexity: a small, simple request stream may not need those managed layers. Ask for the price per successful record, not just the proxy transfer rate.

Decodo
Decodo is positioned as a value or general-purpose choice. Proxyway’s 2026 residential comparison reported a 99.92% success rate and 0.53-second response time for Decodo under Proxyway’s own test conditions over its stated research period. Those figures are not guarantees for your target, geography, concurrency, or time of day. Comparison sources list different residential pool sizes and prices, so confirm the live offer before committing.
Oxylabs
Oxylabs is aimed at larger operations that value support and a broad product range. Its own guidance describes datacenter proxies as fast and cost-effective for less difficult workloads, while residential proxies are associated with physical locations and may be harder to block. Treat those statements as provider guidance. Enterprise pricing, commitments, and target coverage should be checked for the exact deployment.
SOAX
SOAX is a candidate when city, carrier, residential, or mobile targeting matters. Proxyway reported 99.78% residential success and 0.89-second response time in its comparison methodology. Confirm whether the location granularity, session controls, and billing model match your crawler before selecting it on the benchmark number alone.
Webshare
Webshare’s self-service model and free datacenter entry make it practical for a first connectivity test. Proxyway reported 99.28% residential success and 0.86-second response time under its conditions. Test the paid residential product separately: a free datacenter endpoint can have a very different reputation and blocking profile from the traffic you ultimately need.

IPRoyal
IPRoyal offers the broad product mix described in the comparisons—residential, ISP, datacenter, and mobile—and is positioned for flexible or pay-as-you-go use. Proxyway reported 96.11% residential success and 1.24-second response time in its test. That result is lower than the other listed leaders in that particular comparison, but your target may produce a different outcome. Verify the countries, rotation controls, and minimum purchase.
Rayobyte
Rayobyte is listed with multiple proxy types and a trial option. Proxyway reported 98.02% residential success and 1.86-second response time in its methodology. Because comparison pages disagree about its pool size, treat network-scale claims as unverified until you inspect the current product terms and run a controlled trial.
What the independent comparison numbers do—and do not—mean
Proxyway says its annual 2026 market research used millions of tests over three weeks. In that comparison, the reported residential figures were:
| Provider | Reported success | Reported response time |
|---|---|---|
| Decodo | 99.92% | 0.53 s |
| Oxylabs | 99.93% | 0.60 s |
| SOAX | 99.78% | 0.89 s |
| Webshare | 99.28% | 0.86 s |
| IPRoyal | 96.11% | 1.24 s |
| Rayobyte | 98.02% | 1.86 s |
These are Proxyway’s measurements under its own destinations, protocol choices, locations, and timing. They are useful for forming a shortlist, not for promising a result against your anti-bot stack. Run your own pilot with the same URLs, countries, concurrency, timeout, and extraction checks you will use in production.
Rank #3
Five additional names to investigate, not equal-ranked winners
Other comparisons mention ProxyEmpire, DataImpulse, NetNut, Infatica, Nimbleway, MarsProxies, Byteful, and Evomi. The available evidence does not support giving all of them the same current, independent scrutiny as the seven providers above. If one appears in your procurement shortlist, verify its official product, sourcing, acceptable-use, pricing, and trial pages first. This is why a literal 12-way ranking would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.
Provider claims that commonly become stale
Network size, starting price, trial availability, and compliance language change frequently. The comparison sources themselves conflict: one lists Decodo at 115M-plus residential IPs and another at 125M-plus; Bright Data appears as 400M-plus in one source and 150M-plus in another. Do not combine those figures into a single “true” pool size. Record the publisher and date of every figure, then confirm the provider’s current terms.
A practical evaluation workflow
- Describe the workload: domains, pages per day, countries, JavaScript requirements, concurrency, data fields, and maximum acceptable latency.
- Start with the least expensive viable type: test datacenter traffic first for permissive targets, then residential or mobile only when the target requires it.
- Use identical test conditions: same URL set, timeout, headers, session duration, retry policy, and geographic distribution for every provider.
- Measure useful outcomes: successful records, valid HTML, challenge frequency, median and tail latency, bandwidth consumed, and cost per accepted record.
- Check operational terms: sourcing documentation, abuse process, retention, authentication methods, concurrency limits, and cancellation terms.
- Roll out gradually: cap concurrency, monitor status codes and content changes, and keep a fallback provider only where the legal and financial case justifies it.
Common failure modes and fixes
Many 403, 429, or challenge responses
Reduce concurrency, use a longer-lived session where permitted, verify headers and cookies, and test a different proxy type or location. Do not assume rotating faster will solve a reputation problem.
Requests are slow or time out
Measure DNS, connection, transfer, and server time separately. Move the proxy location closer to the target, increase the client timeout within reason, and remove unnecessary retries that amplify load.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Pages return successfully but contain no data
The target may require JavaScript, a consent action, authentication, or a later API call. Use a browser-capable product when you are authorized to do so, or identify the data request directly and respect its access rules.
Costs exceed the estimate
Track bytes per page and retry traffic, not just page count. Cache immutable responses, avoid downloading unneeded assets, and compare cost per usable record across raw proxies and managed scraping products.
Proxy pool claims do not match reality
Ask how many addresses are available in your selected country at your required concurrency and session policy. Advertised totals may include worldwide or intermittently available addresses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy residential proxies immediately?
No. Pilot a datacenter endpoint first when the target permits it; move to residential or mobile only when testing shows that reputation or geography requires the extra cost.
Can a benchmark success rate predict my scraper’s results?
No. The published percentages reflect Proxyway’s destinations and test conditions. Use them to narrow a shortlist, then run an identical pilot against your own authorized URLs.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Are a larger advertised IP pool and better performance the same thing?
No. Pool totals may include worldwide or intermittently available addresses, while performance depends on location, target, session policy, and concurrency.
When is a managed scraping API preferable to raw proxies?
Choose managed tooling when browser rendering, retries, unblocking, and structured output would cost more engineering effort than the service fee. Compare cost per usable record and control requirements.
The Bottom Line
Choose by workload, validate with a controlled pilot, and treat pool, price, trial, and compliance claims as time-sensitive. The seven-provider shortlist is more defensible than pretending the available evidence supports a precise 12-way ranking.
