A Google Knowledge Panel is an information box that Search may show about a person, place, organization, or other entity. Google generates it from its Knowledge Graph and information it finds across the web. If you are the subject of a panel—or officially represent that entity—you can claim it when Google offers the claim option, then verify your connection through an official account. Claiming a panel does not guarantee that Google will make every suggested edit.

What a Google Knowledge Panel is

A Knowledge Panel is a snapshot of information Google associates with an entity. Google says its Knowledge Graph contains facts about people, places, and things drawn from varied public sources and licensed data. Its systems generate panels when they find enough information about an entity on the open web; information for a panel may come from multiple sources and, for some topics, data partners.

Panels are generated automatically and can update as Google’s understanding or the information available online changes. A verified subject or official representative can suggest edits to facts on the panel, but verification is not control over the panel’s content: Google considers suggestions and other user feedback as it decides what to show. See Google’s explanations of Knowledge Panels and how the Knowledge Graph works.

Who can claim a panel

Claiming is intended for the person or entity represented in the panel, or someone officially authorized to represent them. You will need a Google Account and access to an official site or profile associated with the entity. Google’s verification flow may offer YouTube, Search Console, Twitter, or Facebook as examples of accounts or profiles to use. The options shown depend on the entity and Google’s ability to identify its official online presence.

Not every Knowledge Panel has a claim option. Google says to check again periodically if the option is unavailable; its presence is not guaranteed for every person or entity.

How to claim and verify a Knowledge Panel

  1. Sign in to a Google Account. Create one if you do not already have an account you can use for the verification process.
  2. Find the panel in Google Search. Search for yourself or the entity you officially represent, then locate the Knowledge Panel for that entity.
  3. Choose the claim control. Select Claim this knowledge panel at the bottom of the panel. Depending on how the panel is displayed, the option may be in its About section; on mobile, open the panel menu and choose the claim action.
  4. Review the panel information. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm that you have found the right entity.
  5. Verify through an official account or profile. Sign in to one of the official sites or profiles Google presents for the entity, such as YouTube, Search Console, Twitter, or Facebook. Use an account that is genuinely connected to the person or organization represented.

If Google cannot identify a site associated with the entity, it may ask for additional information to verify that you are authorized to claim the panel. The available prompts can vary, so follow the current instructions shown in the claim flow. Google’s step-by-step guidance is on its Get verified on Google page.

If the claim option is missing or someone else manages the panel

No claim option appears

Google does not offer the claim control for every panel. If it is absent, Google’s advice is to check periodically. If you need to correct a fact in the meantime, use the panel’s Feedback option rather than trying to claim a panel that has no claim flow.

The panel is already managed

First check with colleagues and other likely representatives to see whether someone authorized already manages it. If the manager remains unknown, Google describes an Account Recovery process. Under the process described on its help page, Google may ask permission to share your email address with current managers and allow three business days for a response. If no one responds, the panel becomes claimable again. Because support procedures can change, follow the current instructions and timing on Google’s verification page.

Your account is not recognized as associated

Try the Google Account connected to the official site or profile that Google lists. For a website, Google advises adding the official site to Search Console and adding an owner. For a YouTube channel, only its current owner can transfer channel ownership. If you do not control the relevant account, ask its owner or an authorized representative to complete the verification step.

How to suggest a correction without claiming the panel

Use Feedback below the panel to report an inaccurate fact. Select or flag the specific item, explain what is wrong and what it should say instead, and include links that support the correction. Google says it sends a confirmation email after a suggestion is submitted. A suggestion is a request for Google to review information, not a guarantee that the panel will change.

Knowledge Panel or Business Profile?

These are separate Google products with different purposes and workflows. A Knowledge Panel is generated for an entity in Google’s Knowledge Graph. A Business Profile is for a business that serves customers at a particular location or within a designated service area, and is managed for its presence on Google Search and Maps.

If you operate a local business and want to manage the listing customers see on Search or Maps, use Google Business Profile tools to claim or create that profile. A Business Profile is not a substitute claim flow for a Knowledge Panel, and a Knowledge Panel claim is not the process for managing a local business listing.

Search Profiles are a separate feature

Google Search Profiles are intended for eligible creators, publishers, or brands; they are not another name for Knowledge Panels. Google documents separate processes for claiming an existing Search Profile and creating a new one. The requirements and availability differ: the existing-profile guidance describes a minimum follower threshold on one linked platform and sign-in to linked accounts, while the new-profile guidance states US availability and separate requirements. Check Google’s current pages before relying on eligibility details: Claim an existing Search profile and Create a new Search profile.
