To use Agent360 Browser MCP with Claude Code, install both required pieces: the Agent360 Chrome extension and the local @agent360/browser-mcp MCP server. Then register the server, restart Claude Code, and ask it to take a screenshot of your current Chrome tab. A returned screenshot confirms that Claude Code can reach the extension and control the browser session.
What Agent360 Browser MCP is
This guide covers the Agent360 project and npm package @agent360/browser-mcp, not every product that uses the generic term “Browser MCP.” Agent360 describes its system as two halves: a Chrome extension that drives the browser and a local MCP server that Claude Code talks to. Both halves are required.

The extension lets the server operate your existing Chrome session. Agent360 documents tools for navigation, page content, screenshots, interaction, tabs and frames, browser data, and user handoff. The vendor currently advertises 40 browser tools (Agent360, 2026); that number is a vendor statement, not an independent measurement.
Before you install
- Install Claude Code and make sure the
claudecommand works in your terminal. - Use Google Chrome, because the Agent360 browser component is a Chrome extension.
- Decide whether the extension will come from the Chrome Web Store or be loaded unpacked for development.
- Have a Chrome profile ready. For sensitive work, a dedicated profile containing only the accounts and tabs needed for the task is safer than your everyday profile.
Step 1: Install the Chrome extension
Chrome Web Store installation
- Open the Agent360 Browser MCP listing in the Chrome Web Store.
- Choose Add to Chrome and confirm the permission prompt.
- Pin or open the extension so you can see its connection status later.
The vendor says the store version updates through Chrome. Installing the extension alone does not configure Claude Code or install the local server.
Unpacked installation
For an unpacked install, run:
npx @agent360/browser-mcp installThis command copies the extension files to ~/.browser-mcp/extension/; it does not register an MCP server in Claude Code.
- Open
chrome://extensionsin Chrome. - Turn on Developer mode.
- Click Load unpacked.
- Select
~/.browser-mcp/extension/.
An unpacked extension does not use the Chrome Web Store’s automatic update path. After the copied files change, return to chrome://extensions and click the extension’s reload button. The server command shown below uses @latest when it is invoked, but that does not automatically update an already loaded unpacked extension.
Step 2: Register the local MCP server in Claude Code
Run the vendor’s user-scope command in a terminal:
claude mcp add --scope user browser-mcp -- npx @agent360/browser-mcp@latest--scope user makes the server available across your projects. The name browser-mcp is the name Claude Code will display for this server; it does not install the Chrome extension.

Manual configuration alternative
If you prefer to edit Claude Code’s configuration directly, add this server entry to ~/.claude.json:

Step 3: Restart and inspect MCP status
- Exit Claude Code completely after registering the server.
- Start Claude Code again in the project where you want to use the browser.
- Run
/mcpinside Claude Code to inspect configured MCP servers and their connection state.
Restarting matters because Claude Code needs to reload its MCP configuration. If you changed a project-level .mcp.json, restart after saving that file as well.
Step 4: Verify the browser connection
With Chrome open on a harmless page, send Claude Code the vendor’s example prompt:

A returned screenshot is the documented success check. The extension may not display a connected indicator until Claude Code invokes the first browser tool, so an apparently idle indicator before this test is not necessarily an error.
What you can safely ask the agent to do
Agent360 documents use cases such as opening a logged-in dashboard, navigating a site that requires sign-in, and pausing for user input during credential or challenge steps. Treat those as capabilities described by the vendor, not as independently tested results.
An authenticated browser session is sensitive. The agent can read page content and act through the permissions granted to that Chrome session. Agent360 describes the data path between the local server, extension, and browser as local, while noting that information the agent reads is sent to the AI client and its model provider. Chrome for Developers likewise warns that browser-control tools expose browser content to an agent and let it act on the user’s behalf when connected to an authenticated session.
- Use a dedicated Chrome profile or a session with only the access needed for the task.
- Do not connect pages containing unrelated personal, financial, medical, or administrator data.
- Tell Claude Code to stop and ask before entering credentials, submitting forms, sending messages, making purchases, changing permissions, or deleting data.
- Review the final page and every consequential action yourself before submission.
These precautions are appropriate because the sources describe browser access and data flow; they do not establish a particular compliance certification or independent security assessment.
“Not connected” troubleshooting
Only one half was installed
The most common cause is an incomplete setup. Adding the MCP server does not install the extension, and installing the extension does not register the server. Confirm that the extension is present in Chrome and that the claude mcp add command (or the equivalent configuration) exists.
Claude Code was not restarted
Exit and relaunch Claude Code after registration or configuration changes. Then run /mcp again.
The extension is not loaded
Open chrome://extensions. For an unpacked install, check that Developer mode is enabled, the extension appears in the list, and the selected folder is exactly ~/.browser-mcp/extension/. Reload it after updating copied files.
Reconnect the extension
Open the extension and select Reconnect. Allow a few seconds for its connection scan, then retry the screenshot prompt.
The server cannot start with npx
Check that Node.js and npm are installed and that your terminal can run npx. Run the registration command again and watch the terminal for package or permission errors. If your environment blocks package downloads, use the same command from a network and account context permitted to install npm packages.
The screenshot request targets the wrong tab
Make the intended tab active in Chrome before asking for the screenshot. Start with a simple public page to separate connection problems from authentication, redirects, bot checks, or site-specific behavior.
Updates and maintenance
The server declaration uses @agent360/browser-mcp@latest, so npx resolves the latest package when the command starts. The Chrome Web Store installation follows Chrome’s extension update mechanism. An unpacked extension is different: refresh it manually after the files copied by the install command change. Keep the server and extension aligned when diagnosing a new failure, and repeat the screenshot verification after updates.

Does installing the npm package install the Chrome extension?
No. The npm install command for the unpacked route copies extension files, but you still must load that folder in chrome://extensions, and you must register the MCP server separately in Claude Code.
How do I add an MCP server to Claude Code?
Use claude mcp add with the server command, or configure the server in a supported .mcp.json or ~/.claude.json entry, then restart Claude Code and inspect /mcp.
